He tells her things he doesn't want her to know. She hears what she doesn't want to understand.
Their mouths shut tight whenever she gets close to him --
you know you can kiss without it open
-- but they hear each other all the same.
Eventually anger will overcome and consume, feeding their bodies to the flames. Eventually they will release their all-encompassing pent-up emotions (despair, rage, hate, failure?).
Eventually this will happen at the same time.
They stare into dark depths, knowing the shadowy thoughts swirling under the surface. Their emotions feed off one another until they're indistinguishable, merging into one phantom, mirroring both wolves.
They don't know who they are anymore. Mentally, all the boundaries are surpassed, disregarded with impunity.
All that's left, now, is the physical, and that line isn't so hard to cross.
