X-Infernius

So,just before Thanksgiving, melodyrider  linked me to the first thirteen pages of the first issue of X-Infernius.  Wherein, hopefully, things concerning Illyana and her amazingly screwed up current state of being will be dealt with.  Among other things.

I'm guessing a lot of people have seen this already, but if not the pages are here:  http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=92159514&blogID=452023400

My very first thoughts?  Where the hell was this reaction from Peter months ago?  Not for Illyana, but for Kitty.  You know, the girl he's supposed to be in love with?  Seriously, Peter, I love you.  I do.  Please stop failing quite so hard, k?  Proving Emma right isn't really what we're wanting here.

Doesn't help that the situations are so very similar in a lot of ways, even down to some of the wording in what Scott says being the same in both scenes, so I can't help but make the comparison.  I'll be over here, banging my head on this convenient wall.

That aside, I have to say I'm intrigued by what I've seen.  Quest for Magik was a horrible, horrible handling of Illyana and the canon behind her and Limbo and the Soulsword (Not to mention the stuff in the Nightcrawler title with Amanda, Kurt and the Soulsword , but I have at least some hope this is going to address that in a way that'll make it make more sense.  Or, if not that, at least make use of it in a productive way.  I hope this isn't  setting Yana up to be a villian, but I'm not ruling that out right now, either.  She's always walked that line, even when she was far more stable than she is now.

I have to say the start is at least interesting and grabbing, and I'm going to keep an eye on this one to see how it turns out.  I think this story has the potential to, if not right some of the outright canon violations from Academy X and Nightcrawler, then at least make them more relevant and sensible.  Or it could be a trainwreck.  We shall see.

One other thing that did bug me, however, was Ilyana's ranting about wanting her amulet and her Soulsword.  Which would make much more sense, in the case of the amulet, if she wasn't wearing it during the rant.  I wonder if this is going to be explained as not being the real Beatrice Amulet somehow in the story, or if the writer isn't aware that the Beatrice Amulet and the Bloodstone Amulet are one and the same.

Tiime will tell, but jeez I'm actually still pissed about that opening scene.  Yes, I am just that much of  a dork, why do you ask?
