I won the 9-ball tournament!
Only 15 people showed up, so it was a 4-round affair. I got lucky and drew a lady in the first round who was shooting terribly, and since I was playing pretty well right from the start, I blew her away.
In the second round, I was matched up against a guy I played twice in the regular season. We split our season series 1-1, and I wouldn't have been in the tournament at all if I hadn't beat him in the last week. This time again, I was just a little better (and got some lucky rolls, which frustrated him somewhat), so I managed to come away with the win.
The semifinal match was a little tougher, as this guy was seriously shooting the lights out for the first half of the match - I was down about 10 points before I even knew what was going on. Somehow he lost a step and I started getting some longer runs, and I managed to beat him with just a few points to spare.
And oh, the finals. This was another match against a guy I'd faced several times before in the regular season. The difference here was that this guy usually owns me, but I figured I was shooting well enough to put up a fight for a change. Turns out it wasn't a problem at all - I was in the zone, playing good defense, and even when missing I was leaving him impossible shots (which really irritated him more, something I think helped get him off his game). At the end I think I needed to make one more ball while he needed 18 more, then he scratched, and that was that.
So now I'm entered into the regional championship, which won't actually be until March of 2008, since it's only held once a year and I missed the entry deadline for this year's tourney. In the meantime, the 8-ball MVP tournament is tomorrow, so I've still got some work ahead of me. Still, maybe I'll sit back for a little bit and enjoy my first tournament win of any kind. :D
