I think I'm too dependent on the 'stach when drawing Watson, so I tried getting him down without it. Not too sure, but this was the best shot. I think he's to iconic a character to play with appearance too much. (Besides it's a lot more realistic to make him fit and hot than it is fat and doddering.)
I love Watson. He's brave, he's intelligent, he likes dogs, he's laconic, he's a bit of a romantic. He's also a man very physically and emotionally damaged by war. He warns his new roommate about his shot nerves and harps on his bad leg a bit but the moment Holmes wants his help he's in the game. He's got a gambling problem, a hell of a temper, no family, and even when he gets married the detective is still kind of the focus of his attention. He's pretty much the only person who could put up with Holmes and he's also the only person Holmes seems to like or want around or care about. I think that especially shows that while he's supposed to be this very ordinary man in contrast to Holmes, he's kind of a weirdo too. And I love him for it.
