My grandmother and grandfather would laugh when they told the story of the locked up bridegroom. I don't know whose side the bridegroom was whether grandmother or grandfather but if memory serves me right he may have been an uncle of one of them. The story goes that the parents of the bridegroom didn't approve of the bride. On the wedding day they had other members of the family lock him in the corn crib and hide his shoes. He broke out of the corn crib and ran barefoot through the fields to his wedding. Yep, he stood barefoot in front of the minister and his bride and they were married. I am sure they had a long prosperous marriage or there would have been other stories about this particular family member. I wish now I had listened more carefully to the stories that were told when I was growing up. You always think the person telling the story will be around forever and when they aren't you wish you had paid more attention.
