When we all went belowdeck, did anyone else find that room full of posters? I have a fair number of of them in my room--all birds. Not any birds I've ever seen, of course, but Kras City is lucky to have seagulls, one would require quite a bit of luck to find a cardinal or whatever those were.

Or the bird would have to be utterly mad.

[He's ( Read more... )

so sentimental (not sentimental no), how genuinely surprising!, isn't he friendly?, information

Truly a haunting sentiment... We could be traveling through another world entirely. Or something that isn't a world at all.

[He's starting to wonder what a bad storm would do to the ship.]

Or not traveling--not even moving at all. That would explain why the so-called trip is taking so long.

I guess there's no way to judge if the horizon's moving if there are no clouds and no landmarks. Are there even clouds?

[He knows it at least gets dark. Time is moving, though it might be cyclically.]

I've been told there was an island, quite a while ago, but it exploded into feathers as soon as the ship left port.

[Pause.]

No, I don't understand it either.

[He almost questions the feathers. Almost.]

Maybe we've just all lost our minds and have been committed without our prior knowledge or consent.

Mass hallucinations spanning over a year? Unlikely.

Not to mention that if that were truly the case, I would assume Erol would be locked up and muzzled rather than allowed to run free and have his fun ruining people's lives.

[He smiles, and it's obvious in his voice. Damn Razer loves that man.]

Not that I would have him any other way, of course, but the point stands that he isn't exactly stable. It's part of his allure.

You're right, of course, it was merely a hypothesis-- or, well. A flight of fancy.

[Fantastic. Royston's reminded of a young man he knows at home who drove a man mad out of revenge, or so the rumors said. He was sociable enough, though, but was an entirely different kind of crazy than Erol.]

I had enough danger in my life with the war at home, the last thing I need is a dangerous man in my bed.

[He thinks about that for a second. It's not entirely true-- it depends on the type of danger. He wouldn't touch Erol with a ten foot pole, though.]

[Razer wants to say that Erol is only dangerous if you're afraid of him, but...no, Erol's dangerous no matter what you think of him. He's just not dangerous toward Razer.]

Personally, I think I rather prefer it. A dangerous man helps keep you sharp--it's the kind ones that dull you down to uselessness.

[Royston raises an eyebrow at the communicator. Taste in partners says a lot about anyone.

He's also fighting off a terrible pun about the relative sharpness of a razor.]

Danger from the diplomatic issues that might arise is one thing, that will certainly keep you on your toes... danger from being afraid to fall asleep next to that person is something entirely different.

[Yeah, Razer gets that a lot--Kras City Weekly tended to use whatever pun they could find for headlines involving his name, it's hardly new. But taking the names of his teammates into account, he was definitely not alone.

He pauses to think about what it would be like to be afraid to fall asleep next to Erol. He was afraid to sleep when the Commander was a cyborg, certainly, but that was concern for Erol's wellbeing rather than his own. He's thinking about it, and thinking hard, but is incapable of grasping it.]

I suppose I'm lucky, then, that Erol's personality has never provoked any kind of fear in me whatsoever. The fact that he could kill me in my sleep doesn't mean he would, you see.

[Razer could kill him right back, anyway. That's one of the things that makes their relationship so awesome; neither one has been on such perfectly equal footing with a partner before.]

[Royston's a bit wary of Razer now, but he won't let on. The part of him used to dealing in Thremedon social circles says that he's going to need as many allies as he can make. Besides, Razer is not the worst person he's dealt with, at least he's somewhat friendly, even if it's all a show.

He gives a bit of a chuckle.]

To each their own, I suppose.
