Faramir
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy? He is six feet tall and solidly built, especially his upper body, due to training/fighting/shooting longbow.

2. How old is he? He was 31 years old when he left Middle-earth. I believe he'll be 36 in September, though he's not actually aging at all.

3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch? He carries himself very well, standing and sitting with excellent posture. He wouldn't have been allowed to do anything else growing up.

4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities? He is extremely healthy and fit. Canonically, he lives to be 120 years old. He is rarely ill and has no physical disabilities, despite being shot twice and killed once.

5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid? Faramir moves fluidly and gracefully, with confidence most of the time. He is capable of moving nearly silently.

6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror? He sees himself as average, though in canon he is considered handsome.

7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred? His complexion is fair to medium, but he is outside so much that the few parts of him that show tend to get a bit tanned.

8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style. Village Faramir is based on movieverse, so his hair is strawberry brown with blond-ish highlights at the end of summer, wavy, soft, and worn long as most men in Gondor wear their hair.

9. What color are his eyes? They are a slightly greenish blue.

10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features? He has a generous nose, to put it kindly.

11. What are his chief tension centers? The back of his head (he gets migraines at times) and his jaw. I suppose his spine when he's really holding himself in check--like with his father.

12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit? Most of his clothing is neutral colours suited for hiding in a forest, utilitarian, practical, sturdy. His fancy clothing can be heavily embroidered and pretty much not washable. His modern clothing is rather plain, keeping mostly to the palette of his ranger clothing.

13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them? Most of his things are made for him, so they fit well. The modern things he buys fit well also. Comfort is more important than appearance.

14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences? In the village, most of the time. At home, pretty much. Most of his clothing is ranger gear.

15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando? His modern underclothes are boxers, being the most like his smallclothes from home. Those are basically linen shorts, not baggy, that come to mid-thigh and tie at the waist.

Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse? He's a baritone, though it can go higher at times. The louder he speaks, generally the deeper his voice.

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate? Faramir speaks slowly and steadily, as loud as he needs to be. He's used to being the captain, so he can fake it most of the time and you'd never know.

3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics? To someone from Earth, he would sound like he has an upper-class English accent. Not totally posh, but definitely upper class.

4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency? He speaks fluent Westron (English?), Sindarin, Quenya, Rohirric. Reads better than he speaks in Adunaic. Knows a very few words in Haradric and a pile of insults in Black Speech.

5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations? Mostly not in the village.

6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words? Usually he can speak on any given topic without a lot of lead time but more formally he prefers to have a moment to think.

7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change? He is very articulate, with a large vocabulary though not so much with the Earth slang. He gets flustered with women in certain situations. Also if he gets really angry (which doesn't happen often) he has a tendency to be quiet because he has to with his father.

Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart? He is very intelligent, book-smart in the ways of Gondor and ranger-smart or wilderness savvy. Earth street smarts? Heck no.

2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate? He is very capable of thinking on his feet though time to deliberate never hurts. He's a brilliant strategist.

3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical? He is more logical and practical, yet he does have this romantic, idealistic streak that he has to keep hidden most of the time at home.

4. What kind of education has the character had? He has had the finest tutors in Gondor for all subjects, from reading, writing, penmanship to sword and bow.

5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about? He is very well-read on history and deliberately studied the older military histories in Elvish languages. He is knowledgeable about plants and surviving in the wild. He is also very good at knowing people, though this breaks down in the village because the nonverbal cues are completely different. He's always interested in new places.

6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert? He was born an introvert but has learned to be an extrovert by necessity.

7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven? Faramir is even-tempered most of the time though he's had bouts of melancholy due to things that have happened to him. He's not particularly driven because he doesn't have to be--which is not to say that he doesn't work hard. He's just not particularly ambitious.

8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic? He is generally curious about new people, giving most the benefit of the doubt and being respectful until they show that they don't deserve it. New situations get him a bit nervous but it mostly doesn't show.

9. Is he more likely to act, or to react? He prefers to act.

10. Which is his default: fight or flight? He has learned to brace for a fight, though will certainly run if things look risky. That's what the rangers do--strike, then run.

11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks? He does appreciate jokes but mostly doesn't get them. His own sense of humour is lame and falls flat most of the time. He does best with being completely serious, sometimes about ridiculous things.

12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them? I don't think Long Sight is a mental disorder, nor is True Dreaming.

13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person? His mother's death when he was five years old and his father's subsequent change into, basically, a workaholic who lives for his country and his son and heir. Being sent to the rangers and his time there gave him confidence. His experiences on Opposite Weekend (island), and dying there made him doubt and he'll never be fully what he was. Falling in love (Buffy, Sophie, Glaurnaneth) was new for him. Having a son completely changed him, though betraying Sophie to make him still bothers him a lot.

14. What does he fear? He fears losing the war, even though he knows they win. He's afraid of people speaking behind his back, saying one thing and meaning another. He's very afraid of Jack Harkness (island) and what he could have done--and gotten away with it.

15. What are his hopes or aspirations? He hopes for peace, a wife and family. He is looking forward to having a king in Gondor. He wants children so bad. He really, really hopes that Eowyn will love him.

16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him? Damn near everything he's done has been exposed, from his opposite actions to his relationship with Glaurnaneth. His injuries, dreams/nightmares have all pretty much been seen/told/read about by someone or other. Though island Richard Riddick basically swore fealty to him. He'd rather his father not find out about that.

Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents. His mother died when he was five and he barely remembers her. His father does love him but does not say or show it, instead heaps on verbal abuse. He calls Faramir useless, yet still promoted him to a captaincy, which he retains. Thus Faramir knows his father does not consider him useless, but is confused because he continues to say it and treat him poorly.

2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like? He has a brother, Boromir, who is five years older. When their mother died, Boromir became mother and father to Faramir as well as big brother. Faramir idolizes him and never resented their father's love for Boromir--he'd just like some of it too.

3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand? Uncle Imrahil, his mother's brother, could have been a father figure if he lived closer. The immediate family is small, that we know of. Denethor has two older sisters, but we don't know anything about them or their families.

4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them? On the island and in the village, he gained new family. Richard was like a brother to him and so was Elim Garak. Garak was like a brother to Boromir and so Faramir considered him family also. Willow Rosenberg became a little sister and John Hart became a cousin. There was some father/older brother going on with Shasta. Of course Glaurnaneth is family, even though they couldn't marry (even if she would have.)

5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet? Richard Riddick. In the village, Faramir saw him at the library soon after he'd arrived and thought he was the Richard he knew from the island--they were best friends there. After some difficulty, they became friends again.

6. Does he have other close friends? Right now he doesn't have anyone very close except perhaps Kerai. After his opposite crap in the village, he really hasn't seen her much. He needs a social life. Meg... he's working on it.

7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people? He gets along with people very well and has a lot of friendly acquaintances. His position at home meant that he barely had any friends there and that sort of carries over.

8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends? Family. He can't help it.

9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once? He is single, never married.

10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse? No, not really. He is beginning to casually see Meg Giry but is not sure where that's going.

11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest? His first love was Buffy Summers, he never really had crushes. Meg isn't really a crush and he's not in love with her (yet, or he might not ever be.) Otherwise it was Glaurnaneth, who he came to love because they had a son together.

12. What does he look for in a romantic partner? Intelligence, strength (inner strength), kindness, tolerance, willingness to learn. He keeps falling for women/females who have greater destinies that his own.

13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any? He has a half-dragon son named Glaurmir with the dragon Glaurnaneth (Grendel's Mother), so named "Golden Mother" the day she arrived in the village. He loved his son and taught him as best he could before he left the village. He is different from all her other sons and both Faramir and Glaurnaneth think he'll be a different sort of dragon.

14. Does he have any rivals or enemies? Not in the village, really.

15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale? He's straight, probably a 0.

16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him? He thinks sex in a normal, healthy part of a man's life (and he's learned a woman's life too.) He considers it important in that it's one way a husband and wife can show love for each other, but he is capable of going long periods of time without, there being no women in the ranger stronghold. Things being as they were when he was growing up, he was too self-conscious to take care of things himself thus never got into the habit. Poor slob.

17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits? He's pretty generic. He's a strong top, though when he was injured he wasn't so dumb that he didn't let his lady take the lead. He likes strong women, so that doesn't bother him at all. He very much enjoys being with a woman who cares about him. I don't know about turn-offs except he really doesn't want any more oral sex. Seriously.

Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type? The signs are all Earth things, so really don't fit for Faramir.

2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life? They don't particularly have religion but he believes in the Valar, who are the closest beings to gods, and Eru Iluvatar who is somewhere above that. But they exist--Boromir met people who met them. Actually, Annatar met them, so Faramir has met him.

3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it? He does. It began at birth, practically, as he was raised to be a Son of Gondor. That means a certain standard of behaviour that is strict. You care for the people, keep your word, don't lie... Faramir's lapses on island and in village really do a job on him because he is proud of being honest and trustworthy. He considers that an important part of being a leader, and he wants to lead by example.

4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent? He is more tolerant of different beliefs than he once was. People in the village don't get on his case for being different and so it's easier to understand that others will be different too. You don't have to follow their ways, just understand that not everyone does things the same way.

5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them? He's got the idea that people in the modern world are very rude, largely because they aren't taught any different. He still does not like to consider homosexuality in relation to himself. Others can be that way, but they should please leave him alone.

Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt? In the village he has more money than he needs by a lot. He doesn't buy a lot of stuff because he doesn't need it. At home, his family is extremely wealthy.

2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him? In the village, he's just another person. At home, he is the second son of the man ruling the kingdom. Technically "Lord Faramir", he is sort of the third most powerful man in Gondor. In reality, Prince Imrahil probably outranks him and I'm not sure if there are any other regional princes.

3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others? In the village, his hotel room has turned very like a room in the citadel of Minas Tirith, only not made of stone. The colours are more natural, with old-fashioned materials and fur with tapestries instead of prints on the walls. At home he lives in the citadel/palace, though with the rangers he lives in the caves of Henneth Annun.

4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on? He goes out to eat sometimes and he buys a few books. He'll get extra things here and there for his cat. I'm not sure when he'll feel comfortable with the idea of getting Meg a present.

5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else? He's the head librarian in the village and he's good at it and loves doing it. At home he's a soldier when he'd rather be a scholar, even knowing that they need him as a soldier. He's also very good at that.

6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time? He spends free time training (sword tree, archery practice). He takes walks, often with his cat. He reads a lot. He often considers going to the movies but pretty much doesn't. He enjoys the History Channel.

7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods? He cooks most of his own food or eats at home. He gets good bread, cheese, meat, and fruit. He tries not to skip meals and will eat out a couple of times a week. His own cooking is very basic and simple. He doesn't get convenience foods because they taste funny to him. He drinks, but more often ale or cider, sometimes wine.

6. Music? The Beatles
