Magika - Chapter 22
Aiba walked happily to Nino’s house for the birthday party. In the beginning, he planned to come together with Sho and helped Nino prepared for the party. However, Sho suddenly cancelled the plan as he had another family emergency matter to handle and will come later. Jun, on the other hand, will come together with Mao chan. So, that’s why he is walking alone to Nino’s house. Even though Nino’s house is quite far from his house, he prefers to walk because he could enjoy the scenery as he walks.
As he walked to Nino’s house, he couldn’t help but feel amused to see how Nino had changed ever since Ohno came into his life. Who would expect that the sleepy looking guy would affect the ever so bratty Ninomiya Kazunari so much? Before he knew Ohno, Nino is not the kind of a person who would easily show his emotion but after meeting Ohno, there are a few times when Aiba noticed how Nino easily shows his worried and concern towards the other guy. He doesn’t want to sound sappy but looking at Nino now, he truly believes that love can really change someone.
As he turned to the street where Nino’s house is located, he saw a guy from the school. He knows the guy even though they rarely talk. Without feeling suspicious, he approached the guy with a slight pat at the other guy’s shoulder.
“Hi, are you going to Nino’s house too?” asked Aiba. The other guy was surprised to see him alone as he was always accompanied by Sho. However, he quickly recovered from the shock as he realized having Aiba alone might bring advantage to himself. He needs to act properly to ensure Aiba doesn’t know who he truly is.
“Ah, let’s go quickly. I am already late. I promised Nino that I would help him preparing for the party. I don’t think he will mind if you help too. He is a lazy boy afterall,” said Aiba as he took the other guy’s hand to run to Nino’s hand. The other guy was too surprised that Aiba holds his hand that he didn’t have enough time to pull his hand from Aiba when they already in front of Nino’s house. When Aiba pull his hand to enter the house, he become confused to see both of them cannot enter the house. That’s when he realized something. He turned to look at the other guy and when he saw the smirk from the other guy, it confirms his suspicious. The other guy is Nakai and he should warn the others about him. However, before he could do anything, Nakai was quick to react. Aiba was knocked unconscious by Nakai before he could run to the house to warn the OhMiya pair. Nakai just shook his head, he was hoping for a different plan when he saw Aiba alone but right now, he needs to change the plan.
Nino just shook his head. It has been two hours since his birthday party starts but Aiba was nowhere to be seen. At first he was angry to Aiba who promised he will come earlier to help him prepare for the party but didn’t show up until the party starts. However, the anger turns to be worried when he saw Sho comes alone to the party and Aiba didn’t come with his family either. Something bad must have happened to Aiba.
When Sho arrived in his house two hours ago, he immediately approached him asking where Aiba is. At first, he thought Aiba was hiding from him because he is late to the party. But, when he saw the worried, confused and concern look on Sho when he informs him that Aiba is not in his house, he couldn’t help but started to think that something bad may have happened to his clumsy friend. Based on Sho’s explanation, at first, both of them want to come early but because his sister fell in the bathroom, he needs to send his little sister to the hospital first. Aiba then told him that he will come to Nino’s house first and will meet Sho in the party. Sho was now blaming himself for Aiba’s disappearance while Jun and Ohno cannot enjoy themselves at the party because worried about Aiba. All of them can’t help but thinking that Nakai may have been involved with the disappearance.
Soon after the party ends, all of them were called by his father to his office in the house to show something. Now that the party ends, Nino just remembered what they were supposed to do for the party. They were supposed to keep track of anyone who didn’t come to the party to narrow down their suspect list of who Nakai might pretend to be. However, with Aiba’s disappearance, he doesn’t think any of his friends remembered their original objective of having the party.
“I need to show all of you something,” said Mr Ninomiya as Nino and his friends along with Aiba’s family gathered in the office. “But, before that I need to explain something to all of you,”
“What is it, papa? Is this has anything to do with Aiba’s disappearance?” asked Nino. His father didn’t answer but looking at his expression, he could guess it is related to Aiba.
“I never know how strong the protection spell against Nakai is until today. At first, I thought it only works against Nakai, but today, I think it is stronger than what we think,”
“What do you mean by that?” asked Nino, confused with his father’s explanation.
“Yesterday, you told me that Aiba will come earlier to help you. But, today, I realized Aiba didn’t come at all. When I saw you talked with Sho and looked worried, I could guess that something might happen to Aiba. That’s why I decided to look at the surveillance camera to see if Aiba show up in our house or not,” said Mr. Ninomiya and he switched on his computer to show a video captured from the surveillance camera. In the video, it was shown Aiba was talking happily to someone but the face of the other guy was not captured by the camera. When Aiba wanted to entered the house, for some reason, there is an invisible force which prohibits him from entering the house. Mr. Ninomiya immediately stops the video to start explanining how this could occur. As far as Nino knows, Aiba could enter his house all these times, but why couldn’t he entered the house this time? He doesn’t think that the Aiba in the video is Nakai. It is just impossible. He knows Aiba in the video is the real Aiba.
“Why? Why Aiba can’t enter the house?” asked Nino.
“It’s because he is with Nakai. I don’t know how powerful the protection spell is or how the founder Ninomiya was able to produce it, but, somehow, the spell wouldn’t allow anyone who is with Nakai to enter the house too,”
“How could you be sure? It could be that Nakai is pretending to be Aiba,” it was Sho’s turn to ask the same question Nino had a moment ago.
“I stopped the video to explain first. Aiba was confused to see he cannot enter the house. If he is Nakai, he will know that he cannot enter the house. Furthermore, at the end of the video, the image of the culprit is shown in the video. And I had confirmed that the student who was with Aiba in the video doesn’t show up in your party. Putting the two and two together, it confirms my suspicions that the student might have been Nakai,” as Mr. Ninomiya finished explaining, he resumes the video. Just like what he said, Aiba looked confused for being unable to enter the house before realizing what it could mean. He was about to run from the unseen guy when he was knocked unconscious. And that is when the other student was captured by the camera as he walked to approach the unconscious Aiba. Nino was surprised to see the other guy while at the same time feeling betrayed as well. It was his roommate, Nishikido Ryo.
