Cutie and the Beast - Chapter 4
“Nino, where do you go yesterday?” asked Mao as Nino took a seat in the cafeteria the next day. Seriously, at this moment, he doesn’t want to go to the class but Sakurai insists for him to go to the class. It will be a few more days to go to the class before the break. Hopefully, according to Sakurai, they will have enough time for a week break from class to free Kaibutsu kun from the evil Kaiju princess. Ah, he should really stop calling the kaibutsu prince that name. He has a name, a name that he tried to delete from his memory since three years ago. He should call him Ohno.
“I slept in my friend’s house?” answered Nino. That’s what Sakurai sent in the text message for Mao, after all. But, Mao just glared at him, as if she is accusing him of lying. But, he is not lying at all. Aiba and Jun are both his friends.
“Don’t lie. You don’t have friends,” ouch, that’s kinda hurt. It’s true; Nino doesn’t really have a friend. He doesn’t like to have one. Most of them cannot stand his bratty and naughty attitude. Aiba and Jun are exceptions. Back then, he doesn’t why Jun and Aiba are patient enough to stay friends with him even though he loves to tease Aiba’s stupidity and Jun’s weird style. But, now, he knows the reason for them to stay as his friends is because they need to ensure he will forget Ohno and all of his adventures in Kaibutsu land. That makes him wonder if they will stay as his friends if they are not instructed by the king to make him forget. Ah, but, if they are not instructed to do so, they will not come to the human world after all. So, he will still be friendless.
“That’s not a nice thing to say, young lady,” said a voice from besides him and he is not surprised to see his new vampire friend aka his professor to sit next to him. Mao suddenly blushes and Nino smirked to see that. He just remembered that his cousin has a little crush on Sakurai. Oho, if only she knows who Sakurai really is, she will be heartbroken. Maybe Nino should do something to avoid her more from falling more in love with the guy.
“Ah, I should let you know that Sakurai Sho is actually my old friend. We knew each other when I was 5. He was my neighbour. Sho kun, this is my cousin, Mao chan,” said Nino, introducing both people who disturb his lunch to each other.
“Great to see you, Mao chan. We’re very close back then until I was ordered to stop seeing him. I guess he is too naughty,” said Sakurai and Nino just glared at him. Seriously, he should omit the unnecessary information at the end.
“I never heard you say anything about him before. As far as I know, your friends are Aiba and the flashy guy. Whatever his name, I don’t really remember. But, they never contact you anymore, right after they moved to another school?” said Mao and Nino just laughed at that. He still remembers a few times Mao came to his house while he hanged out with Aiba and Jun. It always resulted in a few arguing scenes between Jun and Mao.
“Oh, he is not worth mentioning. He loves to scare me when I was a kid. As a result, I keep on dreaming of him as vampire. It was my worst nightmare,” said Nino, smirking a little at Sakurai.
“Oh, okay. Whatever. Anyway, the real reason I come here is to scold you actually,”
“Hmm, why? I didn’t do anything wrong,”
“Yes, you did. I told you that Yuriko wanted to have dinner with you yesterday. But, you didn’t tell her that you cannot come. She waited for you for two hours,” scold Mao. Nino just gave a bitter smile, remembering about that.
“Ah, I forgot. Both of us are too busy catching up stories about each other. Please tell sorry to her for me,”
“Tell her yourself. Oh, and she has another plan for us. She invites her to go for a camp with her during the break. You cannot say no! I already confirmed to her that both of us will go. Say goodbye to your date with your DS, WII, Playstation and X-Box,” said Mao and this surprised both Nino and Sakurai. Seriously, he didn’t expect her to plan his holiday. Under normal circumstances, he might consider going to the camp, but not right now. He has another mission. A revenge mission.
“I’m sorry, young lady. I’m afraid that Nino cannot go to the camp. You see, I already booked the ticket for him,” said Sakurai immediately and Mao just frowned at both of them.
“Ticket? Where are you going?” asked Mao and Nino still wondering what bluff Sakurai is going to tell Mao. Did he actually know the place in human world?
“To London. You see, Nino is actually very close to my mom. She wants to see him so that’s why I asked Nino to go to London with me. He wants to tell you later but I guess there is no harm in letting you know now,” said Sakurai. Silently, Nino praised for being quick in creating a lie. He must have made a research before coming to the human world.
“Well then, I guess there’s nothing we can do about that. I’ll tell Yuriko chan about it. I guess, there’s nothing for me to say anymore. I’ll see you at home later,” said Mao and she left both of them alone.
“Good job in lying! I don’t expect to go to London for the break,” whispered Nino once Mao is nowhere to be seen. And Sakurai Sho just smirked at him.
A few days later, Nino found himself staring at a door in front of a room in Sakurai’s house. Up until today, he still thinks on how Sakurai managed to get this big house. According to Sakurai, the door will serve as the portal to go to Kaibutsu land and it has been set to open at a certain time for a few minutes. This is different from the door that Nino used to come to Kaibutsu land before. It’s because the door factory that Nino used before is now under the control of Kaiju princess so they have to make a new portal to go back and forth between human world and Kaibutsu land unnoticed.
“I received a message from Kame. The door will be ready to open in five minutes. Remember, it will only stay open for 10 minutes, so we need to be hurry,” ordered Sakurai while at the same time making a weird gesture for the deaf Jun.
“Yosh, I can’t wait to be back. I need my hearing back!” shouted Jun. Again, according to Sakurai, everything will be back to normal for Jun and Aiba when they get back to Kaibutsu land. It’s good to know about that because Nino couldn’t stand listening to the guy shouting anymore. And the stupid Aiba who still wants to make a stupid experiment even though he cannot see.
“Okay, we’re ready to go now!” said Sakurai after receiving another message from the said Kame. How do they actually communicated, Nino has no idea. Sakurai was staring at a small thing while communicates with Kame.
All of them are ready to enter the door as Sakurai opened it when they are disturbed by Mao. How did she get here, again, Nino has no idea. But, she looked very confused right now to see the vortex on the other side of the door.
“Where are you going, Nino?” asked his cousin and Nino turned to Sakurai for help in explaining this thing.
“How do you get here?” asked Nino back.
“I followed you. You’re acting very strange. I think you’re lying to me about London. Answer me, where are you planning to go?”
“I cannot explain right now. We don’t have time,”
“No, I won’t let you. It could be dangerous,”
“All of you go first. I’ll go last,” ordered Nino to the rest of them. Aiba and Sakurai nodded and go first while Jun stayed behind.
“Mao, don’t worry. I’ll be fine. All of them will protect me. I need to go now,” said Nino but Mao approached him and hold his hand while Jun was holding his other hand, ready to pull him in case Mao tried to prevent him from going.
“No, I cannot let you go. What will my parents say if you don’t come back?” said Mao and she started pulling Nino, to stop him from going. Even though she is a girl, she is surprisingly strong. Nino accidentally looked at the watch and noticed they only have two minutes before the portal closed.
“I need to save someone that I love so don’t stop me,” shouted Nino as he tried to break free from Mao’s grip. He immediately jumped to the vortex together with Jun and fall on Kaibutsu land.
He immediately stands up and noticed another guy was smiling at him, besides Aiba and Sakurai. This must have been Kame that communicates with Sakurai before. He also noticed that Aiba and Sakurai have somehow transformed to their other form. There is nothing really different with Sakurai except his clothes where he suddenly has hat and cape while Aiba has somehow become bigger and wearing a very unfashionable clothes and has scar along his cheek. He turned to look at Jun, who somehow becomes hairy. As he analyzes Jun further, he remembered that Jun was the one after him when he first came here. He is the evil monster!
“J, you’re the evil monster from before,”
“No, I’m not. I’m just doing my work back then,”
“Where are we and what are those things?” Nino suddenly heard a familiar voice and he turned to the source of the voice to see Mao.
“Mao chan, what are you doing here? Why do you follow me?”
“I have to make sure you’re safe. And why is flashy guy looking so ugly?” said Mao as she tried to supress her laugh. Jun just glared at her while approaching Kame.
“Kame, open the portal to send this mad girl back,” said Jun to Kame. Kame however looks reluctant.
“I have to stay here. I need to make sure Nino is safe,” protested Mao and Kame just nodded his head before answering.
“I cannot open the portal anymore. The portal can only be opened once for this week. She has to stay,” answered Kame and Mao smiled triumphantly at Jun who just glared back.
“Let her stay. It was thanks to her that we somehow know Nino is still alive,” said Sakurai and Jun suddenly blushing hearing that.
“Why? What did I do?” asked Mao and Nino also nodded, begging for an explanation.
“It was just a coincidence. Stop asking! We don’t have time to chit chat. We need to get going now,” said Jun while both Aiba and Sakurai just smiling teasingly at him. Nino exchanged a confused look with Mao.
“So, what is this about saving someone that you love?” asked Mao as both of them start walking behind Aiba and Sakurai while Jun walked behind them. Kame, however, will not follow them as he was ordered by Sakurai to prepare for the next task, whatever the task is. Guessing that there is nothing wrong in letting her know, Nino starts telling her his experience in Kaibutsu land and how he is now needed to help getting back the Kaibutsu prince back to normal.
“Awww, what a nice love story! You have to kiss him to turn him back to normal. If I have to give a name for your love story, it will be Cutie and the Beast. Like Yuriko chan always say, you’re a cute boy, so you’re the cutie. He is a monster so he is the beast!” said Mao and Nino just blushed while Jun just snickered at her.
“You’re eavesdropping on our conversation!” said Mao.
“It’s not eavesdropping if you’re talking loudly. Stop talking and pay more attention to the surroundings. Who knows if the Kaiju princess’ sidekick will suddenly attack us,” said Jun. Nino just left both of them to argue at the back while he goes to the front with Aiba and Sakurai. Suddenly, he feels anxious about all of these. He is going to see his Kaibutsu kun but the monster will not remember him at all. How different will be the treatment be if he met Ohno who doesn’t remember him at all now. He thought of all of these as he walked to wherever Sakurai and Aiba are bringing him.
