So
Desert Bus for Hope is starting in a few hours, and I feel like I should tell you about it. Desert Bus is a fundraiser for the Child's Play* charity, and it consists of the comedy crew of
Loading Ready Run** playing the most boring game ever created*** on a live video stream while attempting to entertain their viewers through auctions, guest stars, humorous songs, etc. The total amount of money they raise determines how long they play for.
Now, this is a good cause and everything, but I'm going to make a different case for why you should watch (and hopefully donate something): This kind of event makes the world a better place and you want it to happen more often. A group of people wanted to accomplish something, but had no money, so instead they put in their time and effort. And it works. They do a bunch of work, a lot of other people get entertained, and in the end a worthy charity has a hundred-thousand or more extra dollars to spend (if previous trends continue, possibly as much as 2 hundred-thousand this year).
*Child's Play donates games, toys, stuffed animals, etc. to children's hospitals.
**LRR is an awesome group and you should go check them out independently of your thoughts on Desert Bus.
***Desert Bus is a game in which you drive a bus through featureless desert for eight hours. It pulls slightly to one side at all times. If you crash, you have to be towed back to the start. It is rumored that if you are paying close attention, a bug hits the windshield at about hour 4.
Also, while I'm in full "here are a bunch of links you should check out" mode, this seems like a good time for your semi-annual reminder that I
have a website where I periodically publish short-stories and other similar things. They are sci-fi/fantasy stories with a philosophy emphasis, and a giant unified setting of my own creation in which all the stories take place. It's been slow going, because I get depressed working on it due to my complete lack of visible readers due to my poor marketing skills. If you would like to see more things I have written, I recommend you help me fix at least one of those three things.
