Stayed home again yesterday. Still had a bit of queasiness, but it got better as the day went on. I got up this morning feeling unsure of my tummy, but started to think that I was so worried that it was flu that I was worrying myself sick. So, I went to work. And I felt okay.
Took off a little early as my niece was getting her first tattoo! She was nervous, but handled the pain well, and now she has the cutest little monkey on her back! She was born in the Year of the Monkey. :-) The tattoo artist let her mom and me sit next to her while she was getting inked. It was fascinating to watch.
Then we went back to my sister's house had trout, steamed rice, and green beans with butter and garlic for dinner. And a triple layer chocolate cake for dessert. And we watched 13 Going on 30.
I got home around 8:30 and changed into my jammies. I had just settled in for the night when I heard a thud, I thought it was one of my downstairs neighbors slamming a door. Then the house began to shimmy. Aha, earthquake, I thought. I jumped onto the USGS website and there was no information. So, I figured it might have been just another phenomena of living upstairs in an old house that I hadn't experienced before.
Then I was channel-surfing and came across a newscast from a San Francisco station. It was an earthquake. I went back to the USGS site. It turns out it was a quake of magnitude 4.2. The epicenter was about 60-70 miles from here. It felt stronger than a 4.2. But it was 10.3 miles deep. I don't know if that would have made the quake feel stronger.
Anyways, it was just a shimmy shake here. No damage. The only casualties I heard about were $3000 worth of exotic fish. A resident closer to the epicenter reported that a 200-gallon fishtank set into his wall was shaken loose and it crashed to the floor. He managed to save only a few of his fish. Poor guy. Poor fish.
