Well, we're two weeks into 2007 and I feel like I'm still stuck in 2006. I've gotta snap out of it.
The time has not gone idly by, though.
Buying a multi-region DVD player has got to be one of *THE* all-time best investments I've *ever* made! I started watching Unit One episodes and haven't stopped! I've gone through the first 9 episodes twice now and will be starting on round two of 10 through 17, and I just pre-ordered Volume 3. It is sweet because there's four years of Mads as Detective Inspector Allan Fischer. And I just love the whole series. The cast is wonderful and because the characters are part of a mobile police unit they travel all over Denmark. The episodes have shots of the different locales and you can actually hear different accents. I'm having such a good time with it. I am getting *this* close to buying the Danish, Part I course from Rosetta Stone. After watching 17 episodes I *know* the English subtitles are not getting everything that's being said. It often leaves out names. I'm sure I'm missing other stuff too.
I'm psyching myself up to see Pusher II and I Am Dina. From what I've heard both are powerful performances by Mads and I want to be ready for them. I see that a Swedish import of Adams Aebler is available now through Amazon (US), but I'd rather have the cover and description in Danish. So, after payday I'm going to order AA and three other Mads movies from a site in Denmark. I just have to navigate the ordering instructions in Danish.
It's been really cold here the last few days. Not as cold as in the hardest hit parts of the country, but it's unusually cold. I hadn't felt it too much, but I think I'm the only one in the house this weekend and I'm not getting any heat from the apartments below me. So, the heater's on and I'm about to put something in the oven just to warm up the place a little.
A 3.8 earthquake woke me up around 3:30 Wednesday morning. It's the first one in my new apartment. A little rumble. One of the Christmas cards sitting on top of my DVD player fell over. Still, I got out of bed and checked the water heater and the stove as they both use gas. No gas leaks so I went back to bed.
Coming up the stairs Thursday night I tweaked out my knee and I was gimping around all day Friday. I tried all day to stretch out the tendons and get them to shift back into place, but nothing worked. It was all swollen and it hurt. Friday night I gave up and just elevated it. I stayed off of it as much as I could all day Saturday and by Sunday morning I could walk on it without any pain.
Yesterday my brother-in-law's sister hosted a ladies-only tea to celebrate her birthday, and I was invited. She does cool and classy things like that. One of her best friends is from England and they know how to do tea. So among the goodies we gnoshed on were cucumber and butter sandwiches (with the crusts cut off, of course) and homemade scones with jam and real whipped cream. There were 19 of us in her cozy two-bedroom house. We had tea and goodies and talked and laughed. We had such a good time.
Today I'm having a late lunch with friends. And I haven't had any breakfast yet. Pancakes sound good.
I'm determined to catch up on my flist's posts and to get back into writing. I've been reading my reference materials on Sarmatians and the ancient Roman army and Roman Britain. It's a tough time to be doing this since some of my favorite TV shows are beginning their new seasons.
I watched the first two hours of 24 and I'll tune in for the next two tonight. Dresden Files debuts on Sci-Fi. That looks interesting. Supernatural already aired a new episode. And I think Smallville starts its new season this week. Yeah, I got hooked when they introduced Oliver Queen, aka The Green Arrow. It's the archery thing.
And Rome starts up for their second, and final, season. I thought I'd check out The Tudors, too. I've been watching Dexter so I'll probably hang around for another season. I love Heroes! Gotta love that Masi Oka. It's nice to see an Asian actor in the spotlight. Gambare!
Right. Pancakes!
