Too Few and Far Between

Well, so much for posting more on LJ. Truth be told it feels like there really hasn't been much to write about me. Nothing other than a laundry list of things I'd done during my day.

Yet, I've been on my annual birthday week vacation, and like the Christmas break, I get a few chores done, do a couple of walkabouts, scribble down a few notes, and become inspired by a thing or two. This week is no different.

It usually comes late in the week as anxiety about returning to work starts to build. It's not so much that I don't enjoy my job, but when it comes down to business or pleasure, pleasure tends to end up in the back seat. I hope to break that cycle, but I can't say for certain it will be any different this time. So, no declarations or resolutions this time.

So, what's new in my world...

Lost Girl is a Canadian TV series currently airing on Syfy in the U.S. Forget Edward and that other guy. I'm on Team Dyson. He is the lupine shape-shifter who works in the human world as a police detective and as the go-to guy for The Ash, the leader of the Light Fae. Dyson falls for Bo, the succubus who has just found out what she truly is but is refusing to join neither the light or the dark side of the fae world. Not choosing a side means certain death for most Fae, but she is a survivor. Aligning with an outsider puts Dyson in some pretty tight spots and offering himself up to Bo takes a physical toll on him, but he is in love. And wolves mate for life.

Kristen Holden-Ried plays Dyson. He's an interesting guy, too. At 19 he was a member of the Canadian National Pentathlon team. During his four years on the team he won two silver medals in international competition. I've always been intrigued by the pentathlon - horseback riding, swimming, fencing, shooting, running. Very interesting sport. And the rest of the cast is great. I love all the characters. The stories are wonderful and the writing is top-notch.

I belong to a book group on campus and our next book is The God Part of the Brain by Matthew Alper. I didn't have a preference for any of the books on our list so I let the group decide trusting that whichever one they chose would be right for me. I started reading it today, and I think it's just what I need right now.

Tomorrow I'm staying in and finishing up my chores for the week. And, hopefully, working on some fun projects, too.
