I had a plan today to make macaroons in the morning, and then to go to lunch with a friend (loving unemployment!!)
Macaroon plan died because it was wet and humid and apparently that's bad macaroon weather. I went out and got a new sports bra instead, preparing to gym off eventual macaroons. I also made spaghetti sauce, beef, onions, garlic, sausage, tomato, which I think sent to the slow cooker for the day. YUM. Then went out to
POLPO with a friend. OMG lifechanging restaurant. It was exactly what we are trying to do with Cucina Cinzia (except not exclusively Tuscan). And it was only £15 each, including a glass of prosecco! It was seriously the best italian I've had outside Italy, esp at that price. I had chickpea and anchovy crostini, ricotta/broad bean/mint bruschetta, marinated sardines, fritto misto (fried seafood). (we shared all the dishes.) Then we went to
Gelupo, which is a new icecream place, with a little deli in the back, offshoot of a high end italian. I got squid ink (the real ink, not the ice cream! bc I couldn't find it last time in italy) and chestnut honey (bitter, excellent with cheese), and
this book - one copy for me and one for my MIL who I will see soon.
Here's a review. I hadn't heard of it but it really grabbed me, all about flavour combos, not really recipes. Then I went to the dept store and looked at gelato machines (no purchase - too big and expensive) and bought some baking mats (for the macaroons). I also looked at a camera to replace my stolen one. I'm thinking Sony NEX - anyone know about it??
Now I'm in bed, having dozed a bit previously, but can't get to sleep as I keep thinking of things I want to do with Cucina Cinzia, blog posts I want to write, things I want to cook (Cibreo, and Elderflower Jelly, not together). Better get back to sleep.
