What a week!

Mar 31, 2013 02:18

This week, I've not had a spare moment EVER! THIS is my first one; I'm not kidding!

I'm surprised I got a solid 5 hours of sleep each night! (That's my uge: just enough to get by!) I was tied up in errands, chores, article writing, collaborating, editing, announcement making, team meetings, GDC watching, gaming news required reading, laptop mourning (RIP Jarvis), computer researching/building/ordering/receiving, room remodeling, ridiculous hours-long customer service experiences, hospital/hospice visitation, funeral attending, family comforting, and road trip planning & mapping! - And I skipped a LOT in that list!

1. Jarvis is undead.
My laptop has had an issue with his adapter port for a while, but it all came to a tragic end when I ended up pulling out the port's interior because the adapter had gotten stuck. He still runs, but to fix him would cost $600-$800! I'm calling him undead because in order to get my files off him, I have to purchase an external battery charger. At least I won't have to toss him.

2. Meet the BEAST!
Jarvis' replacement has already arrived, a week early! We decided to go desktop this time around. The new HP ENVY's name is Codename: Beast! We got a SWEET deal on him due to a sale and perks from work!
• 3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 quad-core processor [3.4GHz, 8MB Shared Cache]
• 2GB Nvidia GeForce GT630 [DVI, HDMI and VGA via adapter]
• 8GB DDR3-1600MHz SDRAM [1 DIMM]
• 1TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
• Beats Audio (tm) -- integrated studio quality sound
• Adobe Photoshop Elements& Premiere Elements 11 <-- FREE! :D

3. Under construction.
Needing a new computer meant needing a new desk, and a new desk wouldn't match the old decor, so to Lowe's with us! And Home Depot. And lots of lighting stores. And... you get the point. The room is now gray; we were going to do stripes, but settled on a solid color for now. Need to purchase a new corner bookcase, frame a couple posters, arrange some action figures, figure out some lighting, and renovate the ceiling fan. (We tried to find a new one, and that was a bust.) I can show you one done part, though: Beast & his desk complete with dynamic lighting!

4. Did you say funeral?
Yes, and it happened today. Er yesterday. On Saturday! She was the grandmother of Kidd's best friend, BryAnna. In her mid 90's and living with BryAnna and her mom, she had dementia and several strokes. One day, she just wouldn't wake up; it seemed like she was sleeping, but... So she passed on. I didn't know her, but since Kidd and BryAnna are practically sisters, it's been a sad time for us all, seeing the three of them (Kidd knew Nana well) in grief.

5. Article writing & collaborating? What's a GDC??
The website I'm an editor for? It's launched! - Er... Sort of. We actually ended up joining forces with a website celebrating its 10 year anniversary. Now we're a team -the Destiny Dispatch Team- featured at and partnered with LegendZero.com. If you're curious, the whole story is contained in my first article: From Legend to Destiny. - And the unnamed issue there with our previous leader was a monetary one: we didn't agree with the plan he had on how to make money & the site's overall purpose.

GDC stands for Game Developers Conference, and Bungie, originator of Halo now working on Destiny, which is our team's focus, presented. They've been and continue to be very sparring on details, so this was BIG news! Big enough to write a "double article" on it in collaboration with "Destiny Author" or as I call him by his name, David. This 18-yr-old (tomorrow is actually his birthday, but I'll give it to him) is RIDICULOUSLY talented! He's a free verse poetry guy, so that bleeds into his article writing without his realizing, but man...! Out of everything I've gotten out of this experience so far, he's been the best part! BUT! The article is here if you're curious about what I'm up to: Bungie At the GDC: Fallout.

Already, our influence is expanding, with established members of the Halo community creating alliances... It's all pretty exciting. Tonight, I just signed up to take part of another column on LZ called the Daily Byte. After this week, Thursdays and Fridays will be my days to post bite-sized articles about some technological or gaming development that day. Destiny Dispatch is also expanding its focus from just Destiny since news is so slow, so there will be articles about other games to write, too!

6. Happy Birthday to us: TO UTAH!
When we found a way to take care of all the road trip's base expenses for just over $600, it was decided: we're leaving tomorrow! Now today, I guess. I really should be sleeping because we're driving through the night... But LJ has been calling my name and literally haunting my dreams. (Had some creepy dreams this week. Excellent inspiration for writing if I had any of that time stuff...) There will be pictures! And my first energy drink since we're driving straight! :O I chose Monster since they teamed up with Halo. lol I wonder if it's as powerful as everyone says...?

Also, I'm throwing myself a party on my b-day: Sissy and Andy will be having date night on Friday, so I asked his X-Box on a date. LOL I dunno what time yet, but I'll be playing Halo 4 with buddies, so if you have the game and the time, watch for my update/invite! :D

And now to bed with me!!
