Angel: Loneliness is about the scariest thing there is.
Anne Rice got it wrong. Vampires are not solitary, brooding creatures. Angel excepted, but truth be told, even he finds solace in company, in friendship. A demon wakes up in its grave and scrambles out, eager to leave behind its confines, anxious to find its maker, and ravening after its first kill. Eternity looms large for those already dead, and spending it alone frightens even the most foulest of creatures. Bloodlines congregate together. They fight, they fornicate, and sometimes they kill each other, but that’s family for you. An empty mirror is a desolate landscape to bear alone. Darla didn’t.
