Sunday, 20 December 2020: Hannukah and Snow

Dec 20, 2020 17:01

Another quiet Sunday, following quiet Fridays, Thursdays, Wednesdays...going back to a quiet Monday, 9 March 2020. I am indeed fortunate that between TV, books, and my cat, Smoke, I am well entertained. No anxiety, restlessness, or depression for me, just a calm contentment. I won the DNA lottery at conception. I'm not chronically anxious like Mama nor energetically extroverted like my father. I think they both would have chaffed at this extended period of quarantining in different ways.

John led us...me, Debbie and Jay, the Nieberding family, Samantha, and Ryan and Jill...in lighting the candles for all eight nights. Not since Walter died in 2001 have I lit my menorah every night. I am going to strongly encourage John to repeat his performance next year. I hope that by the time a year rolls around, he'll have forgotten how truly annoying it was getting everybody who wanted to participate.

Despite being social distanced, a certain amount of gift-exchange occurred. Debbie and Jay gave me a little grab bag of gifties, including this puzzle:

It turned out to be easy-peasy, but I'll leave it out on my coffee table for visitors to play with if they have to wait for me to be ready to entertain them.

This was from John and Pam. I gave them "The Splendid and the Vile," about Churchill's Battle for Britain.

From operasnook I got this exquisite piece of handiwork which I fear to use as a bookmark. How to display it is a puzzle I'm working on. Frame it? Attach it to the refrigerator? Something inbetween? Hmmm.

chering was the only one who gave both of N809's residents a gift. Smoke loves his bright blue toy:

Those boxes were all neatly stowed under my desk before Smoke once again decided to chase down and pummel his new toy. (It's stuffed with his drug of choice.)

The cat theme carried over to my giftie:

Not only is it cute as all-get-out, but it's a high quality dish towel. I'll smile every time I use it and think about the donor.

We got snow on Wednesday, and the ground is still covered!

It's been several years since we got this much. At the very least, this is the most since I moved into my apartment in the summer of 2018, and it wasn't like we had a blizzard the winter before I moved. When it has snowed in recent years, it's melted away within a day or two. Not this time!

One of our amenities here at Park Towne Place is our very nice pool:

Just maybe not right now! (The sign says, NO SWIMMING.)

I can't seem to find data on exactly how much snow we got, but you can tell it's a decent amount. We're having a real winter. FanSee
