Monday, 6 April 2020: Stair Climbing Made Interesting

Apr 06, 2020 18:22

Once I started climbing stairs and noticed the varied colors on the doors, I realized I had no idea what the motif of each floor was. Oh, I knew that, like the eighth floor, each floor featured a mammoth reproduction of a work of a well-known artist on the wall across from the elevators, but which artist? In the 18 months I've lived here, I had never bothered to investigate. Now, I decided, was the time.

First, however, let me show you the first floor that we all pass through to get to our floors. It too displays art works: not reproductions but framed, and protected by glass.

This is what we see when we enter the building. The opening across the lobby leads to the elevator bank.

Opposite the middle and near elevator are these two works by a contemporary Philadelphia artist.

"Water Lilies," by Monet.

At the east end of every hall is another reproduction by the floor's artist, but few of them show up so visibly as this work by Matisse.

This is an Andy Warhol but the theme of the floor is the 'modernist' era of the 1960 with various artists shown.

Not my favorite Wyeth work, by far. Oh, well.
