Over the weekend, I noticed that railings used to block off sidewalks temporarily had been left at the corner of my block:

Here's hoping that no rubbish is left and that everyone is gone quickly. Good luck.

Rubbish on my front stoop or next to the tree is chronic, especially on weekends. There is a rubbish bin at the end of the block, but why bother? So I'm not hopeful. I do hope it will be nice, clean rubbish, though, and not something I'll want to get the tweezers for! FanSee

His schedule is still here: http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/09/22/pope-visit-washington-new-york-philadelphia-united-states/72073294/

He's due in Philly on Saturday! I'm not religious, but what an amazing moment this will be.

Thanks for the link. That looks like the same schedule I saw in the NYTimes. If you look at Philadelphia, it shows him having two engagements in the Art Museum area, then nothing until he appears at Independence Hall. Lombard Street is one way from Independence Hall back to the Art Museum area. That's the only time on his schedule where it looks to me that coming down Lombard Street would make any sense.

However, the World Meeting of Families is also taking place here that weekend, so Lombard may be being blocked off for something related to that. FanSee

If so, he'll come right down this block and past my humble abode.

Sounds interesting. I hope it all goes down well.
Take care

With the subject matter of this post I didn't quite know what icon to go with. Surely I couldn't use any of my B/J ones...

It's not too late to flee the city for the weekend!

That's what Pam and John did. They are in Kentucky for the weekend, as Pam works on finishing off seeing all 50 states. Alaska is due to fall next summer, and she's done.

I thought of spending the weekend at Karen and Bruce's, but they decamped to Vienna. Finks! FanSee

Gotta love those Catholics!

Actually, I don't mind this Pope. He seems to be making great strides for moderization of the Church.

I think he's modernizing and humanizing the way the church interacts with the laity, Catholic and otherwise, but I don't think he'll mess with dogma. No women priests, no married priests, no acceptance of birth control. I'd love to be surprised, though. FanSee
