[When Gede says he works [worked?] in a lab, people usually get one of two images in their minds, the brilliant, fast-paced 'lab' of a crime drama, or the bland, sterile environment of high school science labs and hospitals. His own was not too different from the latter, mostly comprised of pale colors and glass and metal, but not as suffocating or pungent as most people's negative experiences. But above all, back home it was his haven in the heat of the Nevada desert, and now his haven in the heat of this hellhole's summer 'months'.]
