Over the weekend I was super busy but managed to get in almost 5000 words. So I came close to my goal of Six thousand and only 100 words short of the 5,000 words ever 3 days that will make it across the finish line.
I'm using a couple of tricks.
#1 is my soundtrack. It is a themed soundtrack that I am basically playing at all times with tons of music on it that relates to different atmospheric moments for my story. My creative brain loves to hear songs and then tries to interpret how those songs fit into my story.
#2 Dreamcasting. I decided that I would dreamcast two of my original characters using combinations of characters that I love. Do other people do this? I find it helps me to understand more about their little mannerisms etc. It's already helped me to make the relationship between my protagonist and her love interest more interesting to me.
#3. Using a calendar. The whole novel takes place during the summer of 2012 so the action is relatively fast paced as the character moves from point A to point B in "real time" as it were.
#4. Using a tarot progression. So far this hasn't had a ton of effect, but it does help to shape the overall plot and gives me a sense of pacing and goals to hit.
#5. Touchstones from great literature. I hope this will work out like I want it to, as it is part of the central theme of the novel!!
let me know what sorts of things work for you!
I'm sad that I don't have time to write for SPN this week. Maybe a drabble if I hit my goal today!!
The next big goal is 10,000 words by Wed. Nov 6 -- holy cow.
poisontaster had a lot of great advice :
sit your butt down, turn off the inner editor, skip what you can't get straight right now, and PERSEVERE!!
