Loving someone means making yourself a little vulnerable. They could hurt you...and if you lose them, it's even more painful. Some people would rather never love at all than feel that sort of pain.

Maybe they did feel it before and something bad happened, so they don't want to love again. Or perhaps they saw someone else get heartbroken.

And of course, sometimes pride stands in the way. Some people think love is weak and they don't want people to think of them that way.
