Fan Girl Monday Tour Stop
I am more than a one dimensional fangirl! I do read other pairings besides HG/SS. In fact I have been known to read just about any pairing. Turns out I am fairly easy. Here are my favorites outside my OTP.
1. The Three R’s by bambu345
This is a perfect example of me following a favorite author anywhere she will go. Not only did I read Bambu’s HG/VK story but I believed in it!! I was pleased the couple got together and pleased with the happy ending. This is all the more appalling when you consider I don’t even like Viktor that much, she made me love him, if only for this one story.
Now Bambu is writing a HG/CW story with talesofsnape over on bambu_tales and I fallen in lust with Charlie!!
2. Nocturne by Tira Nog
HP/SS The hands down BEST slash fic I have ever read. No male pregnancy, no hearts and flowers, just acutely formed characters doing their best to survive and one vampire. Oh and a happy ending of course, I wouldn’t recommend a story without one.
3. Flora and Fauna by Amy
Look out it’s a NL/RL story, the pairing does a whole lot of nothing for me. What makes this story stand out and frankly all of the author’s work is her “world building.” Amy takes the reader into a place of her own making that is truly fascinating, filled with rich descriptions and clever magic. As a gardener I was delighted by all the back story and details around Neville opening up his own shop. Prepare to lose yourself in the minutiae.
4. Life in Kind by sansa1970
HP/SS another excellent job of “world building” this time it’s an incredible back story about magical portrait painting. I was fascinated by the whole process of creating a portrait. At the same time there is this creep chill to the story, a feeling of surreal wrongness. It felt like Rod Serling was narrating a la The Twilight Zone. I am telling you I get goose bumps on my arms every time I read it!
5. The Home Fries Nazi by pir8fancier
HP/SS How could Snape be happy without magic working as a cook in the US? Seems like crack fic, but it is NOT. This is an angsty story, well written and with a surprising amount of laughs that catch you unawares. Harry’s POV.
6. Unquenchable or Eternal sunshine of the Hogwarts mind by sobriquet_99
Have you ever seen the movie Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind starring Jim Carey and Kate Winslet? If you like quirky movies it’s a must see. The fan fic is a delightfully twisted one shot based on the movie featuring Hogwarts graduates HG/RW and HG/HP.
7. From The Ashes by fourth_rose
A post Voldy defeat story that beautifully paints Pansy, Harry, Draco’s memory and surprisingly Percy. Seriously Percy is the unexpected fantasticness of this story. The author shows a competent, mature, friendly man who is seldom portrayed as such in fan fiction. I found myself giddy each time he appeared in the story.
8. Traumlider by rexluscus
Here it is fan girls the first story to convince me that SS/LL could happen. Rex describes the story by saying “After Snape falls out of favor with the Order, the only one not buying the prevailing wisdom about him is Luna, who knows exactly how it feels to be misunderstood.” What I love love love about this story is the little details of how Snape comes to befriend Luna. It is not flowers, rainbows and sunshine, it is sickness, loneliness and a healthy amount of snark. In other words completely credible.

9. Same Time Next Month by littlelizzyann
Continuing on with the Luna love is this quirky one shot featuring LL/RL. What makes this story unique is Luna’s POV. Instead of writing Luna with the typical funny non- sequiturs, Littlelizzyann shows us an adult Luna struggling to stay in the moment. Luna seeing purple nargle horn crumpents or other pretend characters is a disability not a joke. Plus there is hot sexxors and some HG/SS in the background.
10. Nary A Good Grain of Sense by tales-of-josan
Twins/Snape. The twins need a Potion Master on staff and they just happen to know one. What stands out in this novella is just how low Snape has sunk. We get to see the very dregs of his depression all the way up to a contented man who is able to thumb his nose at Moody. Also contains renovation!porn, naked scenes, and a cameo from Bill Weasley. Did I mention it is hot?
11. Shared Opinions by floraheart
To continue with Forge love here they are paired with Pansy. What is captivating about this story is Pansy’s point of view. She is determined to make a different path than her parents did. What better way to start out than asking Forge for a job? ((snicker)) Every time I reread this I wish there was more plucky Pansy out there.
12. Cuckoo in the Nest: The Baby Dialogues by melusin
This is more of a general fic than shippy, more a familial love than romantic love. I am being purposefully vague here, I don’t want to give it away. Go read this unique one shot. Go.
I cannot do it! I can’t rec stories and ignore Hermione and Severus.
13. Pomegranate Seeds by ArsenicJade
And the ever so brief sequel Part of the Story
Frankly you cannot go wrong with anything written by Arsenic. Seeds is one of those stories that I find myself hunting up for a reread every few months. Arsenic is a master of the hurt/comfort genre. In this story it could be debated that both Hermione and Snape are hurt. Go read it and tell me who you think is the most damaged. The writing is intelligent, no pandering, the laughs will take you by surprise and when you reach the end you will wish there was more. How great is that?
Currently Arsenic is in a bandslash writing phase. I would jump through hoops of fire if she would please please pretty please come back to Potterverse. ((sniffle))
14. St. Valentine’s Liquorice by subvers
I refuse to pick just one of Subversa’s stories to call my absolute favorite in the whole wide world. I cannot love one of my children more than another, it would not be right. Instead I offer you the closest Subversa has ever come to writing PWP. She doesn’t quite pull it off, there is a plot but there is also incendiary sex. My favorite part of the story is that she manages to throw a few kinks in while the reader wasn’t looking, atta girl.
Extra credit: Not a Harry Potter fan fic! This is Jane Austen. A Dog’s Life by MrsMich
This is a missing moment from Pride & Prejudice where we hear Darcy’s POV. Then the author fast forwards to after his marriage and takes the reader into the bedroom. It is ever so slightly naughty. This is the closest I have come to Jane Austen p0rn, which is to say not very close. I wonder is there Jane Austen p0rn?
