Friday's Edition...

Oct 29, 2010 09:33

The offerings today run the gamut from stories (mostly one-shots, since I apparently am long-fic commitment phobic) to art to craft to video. Mainly Harry Potter (reflecting my love for SS/HG, Neville, and Professor Flitwick) with some Star Trek, Narnia, and Firefly thrown in.

Without further ado, on to the recs, in no particular order:

1) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: The Chosen
Author: bellegeste
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2568747/1/New_Perspective_1_THE_CHOSEN
Rating: PG
Status: Complete
Summary: AKA Neville and the Borometz. Wracked with doubts after the death of Dumbledore, Hermione and Neville, assisted by the legendary Borometz, embark on a dangerous quest to find Snape and learn the truth.
Why I fangirl this: Because it features a nifty magical creature I’d never heard about and a heaping dose of Neville (and I love her Neville.) Hurt/Comfort, a hint of SS/HG, friendship, Britishisms. It just is marvelous reading and after many years still one of my all time favorites. Set post-HBP, now canon-shafted, but who cares? I don’t! :0)

2) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: Dueling With Dolts
Author: Shadowycat
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2100060/1/Dueling_With_Dolts
Rating: PG
Status: One-shot
Summary: Have you ever wondered why Prof. Snape ended up assisting Gilderoy Lockhart with the Dueling Club instead of Prof. Flitwick, who was apparently a champion dueler in his youth?
Why I fangirl this: Because there can’t ever be enough Flitwick.

3) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: Archaeologist
Author: wonderfulwrites
Link: http://www.thepetulantpoetess.com/viewstory.php?sid=6759
Rating: PG
Status: Complete
Summary: During the war, Hermione makes a deal with the devil and finds herself haunted by hidden meanings.
Why I fangirl this: An obsessive Hermione investigates Snape’s belongings, digging for clues, trying to understand. Haunting. I usually like fluffy stories with happy endings. This isn’t one of those. But this was possibly my favorite story in the 2007 SS/HG exchange.

4) Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia
Title: Aslan and Reepicheep
Artist: camillo1978
Rating: G
Why I fangirl this: Because she painted this for me, and she captured Aslan and Reepicheep exactly the way they live in my imagination.

5) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: Implausible, Irrational, and Just Plain Luna
Author: The Treacle Tart
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2905417/1/Implausible_Irrational_and_Just_Plain_Luna
Rating: PG
Status: One-Shot
Summary: Everyone needs rescuing at some point. What happens when your knight in shining armor is Luna Lovegood? SSLL No really. You read that right
Why I fangirl this: Snape/Luna. A wild, kaleidoscopic ride that manages to hit the right tones for both Snape and Luna.

6) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: Third Star to the Right
Author: gelsey
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/sshg_exchange/190739.html
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete
Summary: Ten years after the war, Severus Snape is declared legally dead despite the lack of body, and Hermione Granger is given the responsibility of dealing with his estate by being the only member of the Order of the Phoenix willing to do so. But at Spinner's End, she finds a book on a child's bloodstained bed: a copy of Peter and Wendy. When she somehow falls into the story, can she and Captain Snape find a way back out?
Why I fangirl this: Gelsey took my request for a book travel from the SS/HG exchange and ran with it. Severus Snape as a Captain Hook stand-in? Could you get a better match than that? She meshes the stories together perfectly, making connections I never would have thought of, and the end result is pure magic.

7)Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: A Merciless Affection
Author: veritybrown
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2297701/1/A_Merciless_Affection
Rating: M
Status: Complete
Summary: When a N.E.W.T. Potions field trip goes badly wrong, all's well that ends well, right? Not quite. A chain of events is set in motion that may cost Snape more than his life, and a student more than her heart. Angst/angsty romance. SS/OC (of-age student).
Why I fangirl this: Verity’s Snape is hard, angry, and bitter. (Not that I mind Secret!Softy!Snape, but you won’t find him here, LOL.) Yet , he manages to still be sympathetic. And while I, as previously mentioned, usually don't delve into long stories, this one sucked me in right from the start. In my opinion the best SS/OC out there.

8) Fandom: Star Trek
Title: Spock in Speedo, with Whale
Artist: lanabosak
Why I fangirl this: Because this is the most-made-of-win plushie ever.

9) Fandom: Firefly
Title: Two Gorram Days
Author: Dyce
Link:http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3272960/1/
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete
Summary: PostObjects in Space, preSerenity. Jayne is left all alone with a bad leg and a crazy girl for two days. It doesn't go as badly as it could.
Why I fangirl this: Anything Dyce writes is good. Getting the voices of River and Jayne right is incredibly difficult, and she nails it. Clever and insightful.

10) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: The French Connection
Author: bluestocking79
Link: http://sshg-mod.livejournal.com/172921.html#cutid1
Rating: PG13
Status: Complete in two chapters,
Summary: Hermione and Severus have each come to Paris in search of themselves. They find each other instead.
Why I fangirl this: This lyrical, delicate story is SS/HG at its best. With Paris thrown in. A nicer way to warm up than even a cup of hot cocoa. :0)

11) Fandom: Star Trek
Title: That Jean-Luc Picard
Video Artists: Gazorra (a Belgian fan team)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf9oD_xl8mI
Rating: PG-13
Summary: A side of Picard you had maybe not expected.
Why I fangirl this: Gazorra makes some absolutely hilarious re-edits of TNG episodes. This one, with creative borrowing from another Patrick Stewart movie, made me laugh so hard I was in danger of losing beverages out of unintended orifices.

12) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: No Trouble
Author: Bellegeste
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2317974/1/NO_TROUBLE
Rating: G
Status: One-shot
Summary: It is Christmas Day and Hermione has no choice but to ask Snape for a very unusual favour.
Why I fangirl this: I reread this ever Christmas because it just makes me giggle. I love, love, love Sarky!Snape in this.

13) Fandom: Harry Potter
Title: A Small Thing
Author: Scattered Logic
Link: http://www.digital-quill.org/viewstory.php?sid=276&PHPSESSID=84de797d4713e5c82cf73eac6fedf2fa
Rating: G
Status: Oneshot
Summary: Harry, Ron and Hermione indulge in an ongoing kindness.
Why I fangirl this: Because I love Neville. And in this story, the trio does, too. It’s just an ‘awwww’ kind of thing.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
