Fangirl Monday!

A little late in the day for my stop on the fangirl_tour, but here we go! :)

Art

Fandom: Labyrinth
Artist: _odella_
Subject: Sarah, with the prompt of "earth"
Link: http://users.livejournal.com/_odella_/80786.html
Rating: G
Why I fangirl this: _odella_ is one of my favorite artists, and this artwork of Sarah is particularly stunning-- the forest setting, the leaves in her hair, and best of all, the way it seems like she's looking directly at you. Like so much of _odella_'s work, every picture has a story all its own and I'd love to know what this one is!

Fandom: Labyrinth
Artist: ArmadaRyu
Subject: Jareth/Sarah, the ballroom dance
Link:http://armadaryu.deviantart.com/art/Forget-the-Babe-112254236
Rating: G
Why I fangirl this: The ballroom setting was always one of my favorite scenes from the movie, and I love this stylized take on it, which really brings out the fairytale quality of the scene.

Fandom: Labyrinth
Artist: janey-jane
Subject Jareth/Sarah
Link: http://janey-jane.deviantart.com/art/Nouveau-Labyrinth-poster-112145073
Rating: G
Why I fangirl this: I know I'm not the only person to fangirl this, but it's too beautiful not to mention again. I love her Art Nouveau inspired take on Jareth and Sarah's portraits, down to the lovely details-- other characters peeping in on the sides, the thirteen hour clock at the top, the labyrinth pattern and the owl at the bottom.

Fandom: Valiant, by Holly Black
Artist: AyameFataru
Subject Ravus
Link: http://ayamefataru.deviantart.com/art/Ravus-125409997
Rating: G
Why I fangirl this: Out of all the YA fantasies I read in the past year or so, I enjoyed Valiant the most and was happy that someone had made such incredible fanart for it. Ravus is a troll, and we're not quite sure if it's a hero or a villain-- this piece captures his unconventional looks without trying to prettify him.

Fandom: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll
Artist: bluefooted
Subject Alice and the Gryphon
Link:http://bluefooted.deviantart.com/art/Alice-and-the-Gryphon-color-24626027
Rating: G
Why I fangirl this: This piece reminds me of when I was a child, devouring stories and fairytales and being drawn into the rich illustrations that accompanied them. She's so talented, her artwork speaks for itself.

Fanfiction

Fandom: Labyrinth
Title: Of Goblin Queens
Author: McSparkly
Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/r/1576405/
Rating: T
Status: Complete
Summary: "A runaway bride. A crashed party. Jareth's day is not improving--and Sarah is determined to make it worse."
Why I fangirl this: There really isn't enough wicked Mary Sue parody in Labyrinth, and this is one of the best I've ever read. The magnitude of high octane subtle snark takes my breath away, and if you've ever torn out your hair over the presence of half-Fae pointy-eared violet-eyed Mary Sues in Labyrinth fanfic, read this and be avenged! ;)

Fandom: Labyrinth
Title: assorted, it's a series of drabbles
Author: akavertigo
Link: http://community.livejournal.com/labyfic/80019.html
Rating: G
Status: In progress
Summary: This is not one fic, but a collection of vignettes, "the story of a magical childhood that Sarah Williams never had", according to the author.
Why I fangirl this: It's proof that you don't always need a linear plot or a strictly defined story arc to tell a damn good story. akavertigo's short drabbles are widely varied from the funny to the poignant, but they're always lyrical and make me think just as much about what's there, what's not there, and what is only inferred with a nod and a wink. Marvelous stuff.

Fandom: Jeeves and Wooster series by P.G. Wodehouse
Title: The Aunt and the Ankh
Author: Curtana (shadow_truths)
Link: http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/77/theaunt.html (also archived at her journal)
Rating: PG-13 (mild slash, nothing graphic)
Status: Complete
Summary: "It would seem that Miss Bassett has her heart set on an Egyptian-themed wedding."
"Will this involve everyone wrapping themselves in gossamer drapes and clasping asps to ye olde bosom?"
"I fear so, sir."
Why I fangirl this: It's so hard to capture two such colorful characters (and a very colorful supporting cast) well, but this story nails it.

Fandom: Tithe and Ironside books, by Holly Black
Title: Such Sweet Thunder
Author: June (thecryingwillow)
Link: http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/72/suchsweet.html
Rating: G
Status: Complete
Summary: "The course of true love never did run smooth."
Why I fangirl this: This is not a sequel, even though it seems to be set not long after the events of Ironside, but it reads like a missing chapter to the story. I love pieces that offer me an extended glimpse into the stories I enjoyed, and this was excellently done.

Fandom: Sherlock Holmes mysteries, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Title: Commonplaces
Author: astolat
Link: http://yuletidetreasure.org/archive/75/commonplaces.html
Rating: PG-13
Status: Complete
Summary: After Reichenbach Falls and the news of Sherlock Holmes' death, Irene Adler goes to Paris.
Why I fangirl this: I'm not an easy convert to the idea of Holmes being in any romantic relationship, but this story completely wins me over. Irene Adler appears only in "A Scandal in Bohemia", one of the few characters to ever rival Holmes in wit and guile. We see very little of her in canon, but this is exactly how I'd imagine her to be, and the quality of writing and command of the characters is simply amazing.

Thank you to scatteredlogic and firefly_124 for doing this! :)
