Just got off the phone with Mum, who is in Hong Kong for her 40th year secondary school reunion. On Saturday, they went to visit St Paul's (their secondary school). Some of these people she haven't seen for probably 40 years, she sounded really happy (more so than in a long time) and she said everyone talked a lot, about their experiences, where ( Read more... )

*hugs* Don't let past experiences put a damper on your new travel plans. This trip is something you've dreamed about doing and is something that you've researched, so it definitely wouldn't be a waste of money. It's an amazing opportunity to see the historical sites you mentioned in your post. The Silk Road tour looks very fascinating. I know you're dealing with a lot of things right now, but this is a time for you to relax and enjoy yourself.

I really like that "photo essay" and film sounds really interesting. Children are so resourceful, but what that mother did was horrible. It sounds like a film I would enjoy. I haven't watched anything new in the past few weeks, but I might see March of the Penguins this evening. I'm glad that you've been able to go out and ride your bike. Aww, kangaroos! Hee! They make me smile. :D

I didn't really do any research, was only looking for photos. Was looking around virtualtourist.com and there were photos from all over the world. Here are some from someone who has actually been to the Silk Road.

Lately, I have been feeling very guilty about spending unecessarily. Bought some lego on ebay but felt very guilty about it. I backed out and was lucky to be let off. I did pick up a bargain (1/3 of RRP) and built a 4WD while I was watching the Tour de France last month.

If it wasn't to accompany Mum because she was going to travel alone, I wouldn't have considered it at all. One would think that I would be stirred into action under the circumstances, but ... I don't know why I am the way I am. :| Sorry about being so down, I just wanted to tell someone, that's all.

The music at the website gives a feel for what the film is like. If I manage to get it in HK, I will send you a copy too. Hope you enjoy going out and seeing the penguins. :) *hugs*

I hear what you're saying about the unnecessary spending. I feel guilty about spending money on myself at times. Don't apologize for being down. I know that the trip will be expensive, and it's natural to have doubts. However, you're doing this for your mom, and I know she will appreciate your effort in making her trip memorable. I think that alone makes everything worthwhile.

The 4WD looks very cool. Lego is so addictive. I just wish I had space to display everything I build.

The penguin movie was awesome. A few years ago, I saw an emperor penguin pictoral in National Geographic, and I've been fascinated with the birds ever since then. It isn't their cuteness so much as their ability to survive under such challenging circumstances.

*hugs* Enjoy your trip, Ken!

Thanks for your understanding Reeves. You are right, it's for Mum and I shouldn't let my feelings on this deter me from making it an enjoyable experience for her. Was just looking at tours last night and it was quite exciting from the anticipation, and even though it's probably more expensive than I thought, there are upsides to it definitely. :)

Do you have a lot of Lego? It would be great to see some of yours.

Glad you enjoyed the movie. We have the small Adele penguins down here not far from Melbourne (a bit more grey than black with those pictured), so I am a bit more partial to those.

Thanks again for helping me with my troubles! *hugs*

Squee! Penguins are so cute! Thanks for providing that Google link. :) When I was in Melbourne, we went on a tour to see the fairy penguins (little blues), and that was one of my favorite parts of the trip. We were driven to the coast in a bus and we sat on the beach to watch the penguins make their nightly trek to the water. Do you often see the birds on your excursions? It was great to see them in their natural habitat. The last time I saw penguins was in a zoo ( ... )

These are the ones I meant (perhaps I got the wrong breed name). It's about 1.5 hours from Melbourne and I always enjoyed seeing the penguins there. :) We only go and see them when we have visitors overseas, so haven't been for a few years now.

The lego you have sounds like a lot of fun, though it's kind of sad to need to take them apart. Yes, definitely not just for kids, also for big kids like us. :)

I will definitely take lots of pictures and share with you all. Have been looking for you on Y!M for the past few days, am on Y!M now actually. Hopefully will be able to chat with you soon. I hope you are having a good week without the normal frustration at work or elsewhere. <3
