He knows that she's not truly evil. He knows that she's not really a witch.
She's just a girl who pretended to pretend on the journey here. She's just a girl who looks at them every single day with sad eyes that are just dying to say hello forever and not good-bye forever.
And so, he throws himself in the water without any way to free himself if no one comes to his rescue with a grin that adds on to his confident and knowing expression. He's not afraid, because she won't let this happen to him. She won't let herself let this happen to him. She doesn't have it in her, because she cares, because she loves. She just can't show it, but he plans to drag it out of her as he feels the water wash over him so mercilessly.
He doesn't struggle. He just closes his eyes and waits and continues to smile, because he knows that she'll bring him to the surface soon enough, so he can breathe and open his eyes to see light once again.
