Sand and Water and Blood
There is a way to defeat Crocodile. There has to be a way, Luffy knows. There is always, always a way, and it's been proven to him too many times to him in the past for him to just give up and give in and let death take over him now.

his blood is boiling on the inside and out because so much has been taken away from vivi and so many people have died and it was for nothing absolutely nothing--

Every time Luffy tries to attack, Crocodile is shown to be nothing but a mirage as he turns into sand, and soon after, it's as if Crocodile is just sifting through his fingers and fading away to a place where his plan will be accomplished--and that can't happen. It just can't.

he's bleeding all over because of a second he had spent being ever so careless and at the same time the people of vivi's country are bringing themselves closer to the end of everything at all--

Sand can be destructive at the worst times. Sand seems invincible. Sand can only be destroyed when it comes into contact with water, a liquid so pure, a liquid needed to keep on living.

but as he feels his endless sea of blood continue to flow he knows that he is at least alive and breathing and that as long as that is true he can clobber that wretched man and he can save anyone and everyone just to see vivi smile once more--

But he has no water anymore. It is gone, and unlikely to ever come again in this country made of vast deserts and dried up rivers and thirsty souls. He needs something that resembles water so that he can make Crocodile tangible. He needs anything that is like a liquid so that he can make Crocodile vulnerable.

And it occurs to him that in this situation, water and blood can be one and the same.

And he has never, ever been so glad to see his own blood before.
