Part Four Lumi Fanfic Table. It was the day before their wedding, and Sami was a nervous wreck. Lucas sighed as he watched her pace around her apartment like a caged animal. She was so nervous about the whole wedding thing that she was making Lucas even more nervous, too. She chewed on her bottom lip as she walked paths back and forth across the carpet. She only chewed her lip like that if she was thinking hard about something or if she worried out of her mind. Lucas figured it was a combination of the two, but it was definitely more of the latter.
“Sami, can you at least try to calm down? Everything’s going to be fine.”
Sami stopped pacing to look at him. “How can you say that? You don’t know that for sure.”
With that, she walked over to the couch and plunked herself down next to him, hiding her face in her hands. “I want things to work, but something always comes between us. We’ve already tried this twice before, and we couldn’t make it. What if love isn’t enough? What if fate doesn’t want us to be together?”
“Oh, stop with that fate stuff. You give all your superstitions way too much control over your life sometimes.” Lucas stood suddenly. “Come on.”
Sami raised her head from her hands, confused. “Where are we going?”
“We’re just going to take a walk for a little bit. I think the fresh air and change of scenery might help calm you down. Anything is better than you pacing your apartment like a crazy person.”
“I’m not crazy,” Sami sulked, but she let Lucas take her hand and walk her over to the door.
After they left their apartment, Lucas and Sami walked until they reached a small park near their apartment building. It wasn’t a big park; there was no playground, just a few diverging nature trails to walk down. It was usually frequented by people walking their dogs, but Lucas and Will had taken a few trips to the park to throw his football around in the small field.
Lucas didn’t know about Sami, but being outside and surrounded by fresh air and sunshine was helping his nerves. It was hard to stay worried about all the bad things that probably wouldn’t even happen tomorrow at their wedding when sunlight gleamed through trees, warm and reassuring.
“You know, I’m glad we’re getting married outside tomorrow.” Since they were going to have a green wedding, Lucas and Sami had eventually decided to hold their wedding out in front of Saint Luke’s rather than inside. Lucas was almost looking forward to the idea of a green wedding now. The weather was going to be perfect tomorrow, and being outside the church would be better than being inside it in one way. Since they’d be outside the chapel, Lucas wouldn’t have to remember the last time they’d almost gotten married, the last time he’d been a big enough fool to walk away from her.
Lucas turned to Sami. Sunlight was glinting off her hair at just the right angle so it gave her hair a golden tint.
Sami must have felt him looking at her because she turned in his direction and smiled curiously. “What is it?”
Lucas shook his head. “Nothing. You’re just so beautiful.” Sami looked like she was about to laugh, so he stopped her by kissing her.
When he pulled back, he sighed contentedly. “You know why this wedding is going to work?”
“Why?”
“Because we’re getting married in spring this time.” Sami was giving him a confused look, so he continued. “Think about it. The first time we were going to get married, it was winter. The second time, it was fall. But this time... This time, it’s spring. It’s good luck to get married in spring.”
Sami didn’t look convinced. “It is?”
“Of course! That’s why most people get married in spring. It’s when all the baby animals are born and when all the flowers are coming out. It’s just wrong for weddings to fall through when there’s baby lambs being born and there’s roses blooming.” Lucas gave her a hopeful grin. He hoped he was getting through to her.
“Lucas, you are so corny,” Sami rolled her eyes at him, but Lucas could see the smile she was trying to hide.
“You like corny sometimes. I know you do because I can see how hard you’re trying not to smile.” Lucas put his hands on Sami’s hips and pulled her closer to him. “Don’t you smile, Sami. Don’t you dare smile.” Sami started laughing and smiling.
“Lucas, stop it.” Lucas grinned, pleased with himself. Sami didn’t look quite so worried about their wedding falling through anymore. They continued walking along the path until Lucas spotted a patch of tulips growing in the park. He picked one up and tucked it into Sami’s hair.
“See? There’s nothing to worry about. You’re going to walk down that aisle tomorrow and look beautiful and amazing. How could I not marry you?” He finished putting the flower in her hair, then went back to putting his arm around her shoulders. She leaned into him, looking more at peace than she had in a very long time. Lucas smiled to himself, suddenly very glad that he and Sami had decided to have a spring wedding this time around.
