So there's this young writer's and illustrator's contest for 1st-4th graders going on and T wanted to enter it. The rules said he had to write a story between 100-350 words and make at least 5 illustrations for it. He came up with the story all by himself. All I did was ask him questions like, "Who is your main character? What does he want more than anything else? What is going to stop him from getting what he wants? How is he going to fix that problem?" to help him figure out his story. He answered all those questions and then we came upstairs where he proceeded to dictate to me, word by word, his story as I typed it. Then he made his illustrations. Of course, I'm so proud of him and his work that I had to scan it all so I can brag. : )
Here it is. I'll put the text under the pictures in case you can't read it very well when you click on them.
Ken the Train
by T
Once upon a time, there was a train named Ken. He wanted to play with his friends, Wilson and Coco. But he was at the station and they were at the play tracks.
As he was driving, he saw a broken track. He stopped at the end of the track.
"Oh, no!" he said.
A helicopter named Spinner saw him and said he would get help. Ken worried he wouldn't see his friends in time.
Spinner saw a train track fixer truck named Driver. He asked Driver to fix the broken railroad tracks.
So Driver went to the broken tracks and replaced them with a new one.
Ken went to the play tracks and played racing games with his friends.
