Popping up for air

Thought I'd emerge from the writing cave for a moment to say hi.  Every time I've posted over the past two months, I thought I was going to be more regular.  I guess now it's time to face the truth:  until I finish Wayworn, I'm probably going to continue to be sporadic.  But the good news is, I've been on a roll and I'm making (slow) but steady progress.  It's taking a bit longer to finish than I thought and I'm not about to jinx myself by giving an estimate on when I will finish, but I am getting ever closer to the end and it's pretty exciting.  It does mean though that I'm getting into that mode where I 1) tend forget there's an outside world and 2) find it harder and harder to interact with that world and don't always feel up to making the effort.  So hopefully I finish soon and can go back to more of a balance.

Other than that, I've been busy with T.  When I talked to the Joslin Center on Friday they were happy with his numbers and made no changes so yay!  He got his report card for the second quarter on Friday.  I'm very happy to say that he's made a lot of improvements since the first quarter.  They grade based on a 1-4 system.  1 being needs improvement, 2 being requires further assistance, 3 means performing at grade level expectations and 4 means consistently performing above grade level expectations.  During the parent-teacher conference we had in October, T's teacher told us that in kindergarten, they rarely give out 4's, even by the end of the year.  I'm very proud to announce that T had several 4's on his report card.  A few were in math (able to recognize and create patterns, etc).  And most of them were in art.  He scored almost all 4's in the creativity criteria for art.  Then again, with a writer for a mom and a screenwriter/engineer for a dad....

On a cute note before I return to the writing cave:

The other day I was taking T to school and as we were pulling into the parking lot he said, "Mama, what are snow bugs?"

Me:  You mean snow banks, right?  They're big piles of snow, usually made by a snow plow.

T:  No, I mean snow bugs.

Me, getting out of the car and pointing to the snow banks:  You sure you don't mean snow banks?  Cause I've never heard of snow bugs before.

T:  You know, snow bugs!  They blink on and off like fireflies.

And then it dawns on me...  He thinks the sparkles made when sunlight reflects off the snow/ice are bugs.  How cute is that?
