Around the Island, Saturday Morning
Thump. Thump. Thump. Snap.
Something came loose at the center of the island. It wasn't the first time, nor would it probably be the last: eons of quickie oh-god-we-have-an-emergency patchjobs had not done the machinery deep below any good. Usually, the worst it meant was a rain of syrup somewhere it wasn't supposed to be, but now--
--the island blinked.
In a flash, the outside world as the islanders knew it had vanished. In its place, an ocean that went on for miles in every direction, a haze of mist, and not a single signal in the air. Phones and computers got cut off in an instant.
The island laid silent.
Until the thumping started again. Somewhere around Loon Drive. It shook the earth around it, sending tremors through nearby buildings.
It was a bunny, towering majestically above Selkie Peak.
