Devil's Nest, Monday Evening

Mar 27, 2017 01:56

The whole incident had probably been inevitable. Last week, Tiny and the DJ had been talking about movies with jump scares and Verity had mentioned that she wasn't easy to startle. They'd spent all of her last shift jumping out at her and trying to scare her and it hadn't worked. She'd hoped they'd given up after that but no, their shift hadn't been more than ten minutes old before they were at it again.

The problem was when the DJ had tried to grab her from behind while she was walking by the bar with a tray full of glassed. Verity's instincts kicked in before rational thought did and the tray went crashing to the ground as she whirled and delivered a kick to the center of the DJ's face. His smug grin had enough time to fade into panic before it was introduced to the bottom of her foot at top speed.

"Well, congratulations," she told him, passing over napkins to help him staunch the bleeding. "You managed to startle me. I hope your both proud of yourselves. Tiny, call him a rickshaw to the clinic and then clean up this glass. I'm going to see what music I have on my phone since we're going to be down a DJ tonight. If Eric is grumpy about that, you get to explain how that happened."
