AndersA yellow unicorn with a blue mane and a staff bound to his back trotted briskly along, grumbling only occasionally about how he wasn't sure hooves were meant for casting spells. By all measures, Anders was coping with being a pony and all the other strangeness that had hit the island over the last few days relatively calmly.
Which did not mean he was happy.
"Do we know what we're looking for?" he asked, kicking a stone along the path with one hoof. "Sooner we find it, sooner this is over."
MerrillMerrill was certainly happy, but that was because she was a griffon and she had wings and she could fly.
Sure, she wasn't sure how she was going to manage spellcasting either, but GRIFFON.
"Some kind of token, I think?" she asked, halfway through an ungainly attempt at making a loop in the air.
KarlaKarla was not a pony, but Kayla was. A pony with wings. So that had been fun as she'd spent the week literally trying to corral her toddler daughter. Fortunately Nommy had remained an infant child. There were some things she was not prepared to do and figuring out how to breast feed a horse was way up there.
"Something that represents magic," she explained. "Like my Jewel, for example." Not that she was volunteering that and anyone who suggested otherwise was getting bit. "Something we can use to tap into the Element's powers even though they're in Equestria. Sympathetic magic, if you know what that is?"
AndersAnders glanced over at Merrill. "Sounds like our staffs," he said. "So, you know, if you see a long piece of wood with a crystal on the end lying around anywhere..."
Bob"Something very magical."
Bob was also not a pony. Though he supposed he could be if he wanted to. He did not.
"We're not enough ourselves?"
KarlaNobody wanted to be a pony. Except for the children, apparently. They loved it.
"I'm not entirely sure I'm willing to become the symbolic stand-in for magic," Karla mused. "Especially to be used in a ritual. Though if anyone else does, I suppose that could work."
MerrillMerrill fluttered up a few more feet into the air and kicked her feet, all four of them, just because she could. "I don't know. That sounds uncomfortable. It's probably something that's linked to Equestria somehow, isn't it? Maybe?"
Anders"Lucky," Anders sighed, watching Merrill fly. Why hadn't he gotten wings?
He coughed, as if to regain his dignity.
"-- I mean, we could go to the Magic Shop and see if there's anything there. We've got loads of magic things from all kinds of places. Why not Equestria?"
Karla"It isn't something specific, exactly," Karla explained. "We're looking for something that we all agree works symbolic representation of magic. " She paused and, head tilting in thought, and added, "Finding some kind of Equestrian magic mabob certainly wouldn't hurt, of course. And it's a good place to start, even if we have to expand our search later."
Karla was down for anything that seemed like it would do the job and quickly, too. This morning she'd been woken up by the ratta-tat-tat of eager hooves on the wooden floor as Kayla tried to run around in their hotel room. She'd vastly prefer returning her daughter to a human mini-hurricane.
Bob"Well, sooner started," Bob said. He clapped his hands together and swirled off into golden light, headed for the magic shop.
AndersAnders looked at where Bob had been, looked in the direction of the shop, and took off at an all-out gallop.
He might not have teleportation, but he was going to make the most of the horse thing while he had it.
Merrill"Oh, wait for me!" Merrill exclaimed, and took off after him in a rustle of wings, because by the Creators, she was going to enjoy being a griffon as long as possible. Even if that wasn't very long.
[OOC: Another establishy post, yup!]
