Cassandra"I suggest we cease dithering and begin pursuing this talisman," Cassandra snapped. Somehow, she managed to make extremely irritable work well on a pony face. "I tire of this nonsense."
Roscoe"Fine by me." Roscoe tossed his tail as he trotted behind her. "Where to?"
Cassandra"To find something that is... honest about itself, I suppose?" Cassandra ventured.
Yeah, she really wished she could just punch something, instead.
RoscoeRoscoe, personally, was grateful not to have to punch anything. For one thing, he had hooves. And then there was the issue of his total lack of fighting ability.
"Well, my mind jumped right to booze," he admitted. "It's kind of an awkward talisman, though. We'd have to get him really drunk. I don't think that's it."
Cecil"I'm honest," Cecil said. "Well, mostly. Um. Radio is honest?"
Hey, he was trying here!
Roscoe"Is it, though?" Roscoe countered. "Everyone knows how to trick the squirrels into not reporting stuff."
He tossed his tail thoughtfully. "What about something that shows you the truth? Like the front facing camera on your phone!"
Cecil"Doesn't that show reality?" Cecil asked dubiously.
Reality was not honest!
Cassandra"Reality is honest," Cassandra said flatly, disagreeing vehemently with Cecil's narrative there. "Though I believe a camera still offers the veil of technology, and... filters. A mirror, perhaps."
Roscoe"I have a mirror!" Roscoe exclaimed. No, really, he was shocked to actually be of use. He felt around in the handbag he'd been carrying around his neck and presented his
compact mirror to the group. "Will this work?"
Cecil"Um! Prooobably...?"
Cecil was backing away to stay out of sight of it, though. It was an uncovered mirror!
Cassandra"It is as good a possibility as any," said Cassandra, who mostly sounded like she was tired of this nonsense already. "I say we take it and be done with it."
She turned her head and eyed Cecil. "... What are you doing?"
Cecil"Mirrors are dangerous," Cecil said firmly. "I'm just getting out of its way."
Roscoe"No they're not," Roscoe said, gazing right into the mirror. Hmph. Was his horn always so pointy? "They're great!"
Cecil"Maybe not for you," Cecil said. "I'll just stay over here, thanks."
CassandraCassandra made a disgusted noise. It was very loud, and came with little cartoon clouds spitting out her nose.
"Both of you, cease being foolish," she said, "Let us proceed so that this farce may come to an end."
RoscoeRoscoe muttered something that sounded like "Okay, grumpy."
And then delicately tucked his mirror back in his bag. It wouldn't do to break the talisman, after all.
