"Do you come here often?"

That was not a planned pickup line as much as it was Rey trying to figure out if this was a normal thing here.

"Nope, I followed a squirrel that seemed like it wanted to show me something," Ada admitted. "Next thing I know, I'm in here, and they're calling my name, so I figured I'd go with it since I ain't the most social on my own. You?"

"Someone handed me something and I signed it. I probably shouldn't have," Rey said, nervously tucking a strand of hair behind her ear just for something to do with her hands.

"Never sign something someone hands you without reading it, especially if they're a townie," Ada agreed sagely. "They'll get you every time."

She grinned and leaned back in her chair, hoping to put Rey at ease. Though, admittedly, she was cute all flustered like this. "You're in Mr. Hardison's class with me, ain't you? How you like the school so far?"

"It's pretty good," Rey said, totally avoiding looking her in the eye. "The people have been pretty nice."

"Weirdly nice, sometimes," Ada agreed. "I ain't never met people this nice and accepting that weren't already my family. Not gonna lie, I spent my first few weeks hiding in my room, because I didn't know how to deal with so many people."

She plunked her chin on her hands and grinned at Rey. "Though the biggest adjustment has been snow. I don't understand everyone's obsession with the stuff. Don't they realize it's cold? And wet?"

The moment she sat down, April rested her chin on her hand and sighed. It was a heavy, happy sigh that was full of looooove.

"Hi," she said, breathlessly.

This was the second time Skaar felt this way tonight, but this time it felt even more real. Maybe because it was present. Or maybe because April was the young woman he'd been waiting for all this time.
