Over by the front door was a sign reading:

Caritas Presents:
3 MINUTE DATES

Earlier in the evening there was general milling about and Tino serving drinks and such, but then, just before 8, music swelled.

( I accidentally wrote an intro song for Frank to sing oops. )

Lucille had only signed up for this because she was bored and because it would come across as respectably sociable. Once at the bar she felt out of place. How had the world changed so much that a lady could go to a bar on her own, with the intent to talk to strangers? On the other hand, she had no reason to be concerned about her reputation, and at least that was something.

Dante gave Frank the Booze Salute with his glass and then proceded to down it.

He did not pay any attention as to whether Frank responded. He felt they were on the same wavelength.

Ada waved at Dante before making her way over to him and taking a seat. "You see me making any terrible in the not-fun way decisions, please wack me upside the head," she asked cheerfully. "--An' I'll do the same for you. I ain't never done this before, an' I don't want to end up making a fool of myself."

"Eh, my decisions always work out fine," Dante promised her. But he was grinning at her over the glass, so. "But I'll watch your ass for you, don't worry."

Dante snickered. "Your ass isn't that hard to spot," he said. "Promise."

Ada grinned. "Aw, Dante, you say the sweetest things," she said, smoothing down her dress and trying not to fidget as she looked around at all the people. "See anyone interesting yet?"

"Mostly the usual crowd," Dante said, taking a sip of his drink. "I got options." He set his glass down. "How about you?"

"Most of 'em I only know from class, but I see Bela and Ringo, and some of my teachers..." Ada shook her head. "Unless it's Mr. Rogers, I ain't interested in hittin' on a teacher. Him, I'd do just for the fun of it."

"That's the hot teacher Isabela keeps talking about, right?" Dante said. He studied the crowd. "Which one is he?"

"There," she said, pointing him out in the crowd. "Blond, big blue eyes, thicker lashes than sin. I don't think he realizes the effect he has on all the girls in my history class."

So far as Sparkle was concerned, the drinking beforehand was the best part of the dating process. Sure, the dates were great fun and all, but nothing serious ever really came of them. And anyway, Frank was putting on a pretty excellent pre-date-show. Sparkle absolutely had to laugh and applaud, a beer close at hand.
