George was never, ever, ever leaving the food area. This was like food at festivals at home times a hundred in yummiest.

Funnel cakes were on order next. Also cotton candy.

There were apple fritters. Real apple fritters. Beka's not turn them down. She bought two to start with, ignoring Pounce's complaints about the lack of fish paste.

"I guess somebody likes their fritters," Hayley said, grinning. "Hi Beka!"

"Hello Hayley," she replied. "I've missed these. They're not as good as those back home, but they're still delicious."

"Really good ones back home, huh?" Hayley said, nodding. "I can't think of really having any that were special back in Gotham, so I think that's a point for your home." She giggled. "Did you have fun at the dance?"

"They do, though the baker that had the best is no longer there," Beka said, a little wary. "I'd been missing them here."

"We could try! We could kidnap all the workers and keep them on the sixth floor!" Hayley said.

"It'd be easier if they just agreed," Beka pointed out. She was still a Dog there.

"...good point," Hayley said. "Plus it'd be hard to keep them all up there like that."

"...and it'd be bad, right?"

"Folk rarely think of it as a good thing," Beka agreed.

"Good point," Hayley said. "I mean, just cause I had fun didn't mean everyone would."

She nodded emphatically.

Aly noticed the girl tangentially but it was the black cat with purple eyes that caught her attention.

"Faithful?"

"His name's Pounce," Beka corrected, a bit surprised at the reaction.

Pounce didn't look surprised, he rarely did. His tail was curled around his paws and he glanced up at Aly, unblinking. No, but that's an interesting name, he responded.
