Zack had been intending to just wander around the town until he got his bearings. After all, this was only his second day on the island, and there was so much to take him, yet!
But there was a specials sign that had managed to completely grab his eye, and Zacks like this particular Zack were notorious for being impulsive. And so he was peeking his head into the doorway.
"There is cake! And it's not a lie, even if one of the feather dusters occasionally goes into fits about it being one," Fai explained, as if that all made perfect sense.
Re: Talk to Faipuppy_fairMay 10 2009, 12:58:29 UTC
If anyone ever lied to Zack about cake, he would be very, very sad. And then he would exercise the power of his puppyface on them, and all would be lost.
"I'd love some!" He was now practically bouncing into the cafe, now. And he'd even managed to be mostly oblivious to the fact that some of the employees appeared to look suspiciously like kitchen objects, or something like that. Huh. "Do you accept currency from other worlds? I haven't had a chance to convert my Gil to... whatever money they use on Earth, yet."
Gil was made of gold. There was going to be a pretty decent exchange rate on that, fortunately for Zack.
"You never know when different currencies might come in handy," Fai said, completely practical for the moment. "You're from a different world too, then? You're handling your change very well!"
Re: Talk to Faipuppy_fairMay 10 2009, 13:04:45 UTC
"It's not all that different yet," Zack replied with a shrug and a smile. "Fandom Island isn't all that tropical or anything, but it's a small town. I grew up in a small town back home, so coming here isn't much different, especially after the time I've spent in the city. And the people are nice, too. That helps!"
Even the people who were absolutely terrified of Zack's chipper personality had struck Zack as nice. They were doomed to be looked upon as friends by the boy for the rest of his life.
"I like your attitude," Fai said brightly. "You're much better about it than grumpy Kuro-rin." The blond waved a hand in the direction of Kurogane, who was fixing a broken curtain rod over one of the far windows.
"What kind of world are you from? Is it nice there?" Fai asked, getting Zack his cake.
Re: Talk to Faipuppy_fairMay 10 2009, 13:17:27 UTC
"Some parts of it are nicer than others," Zack decided, glancing over at the grumpy guy by the window. Huh. How could anyone be grumpy in a place like this? "Gongaga, my hometown, is beautiful, but there isn't really much to do there. Midgar, the city I was working out of, is kind of dirty, but there's always something going on. It's a trade-off, I guess."
'Kind of dirty' was a smidgen of an understatement. The sky looked vaguely like green cat puke.
Kurogane was special. He could be grumpy anywhere.
"Do you mind if I ask what kind of work you do?" Fai asked curiously, looking Zack up and down briefly. "Everyone at Fandom is so different, I've learned not to guess just by looking at people."
Re: Talk to Faipuppy_fairMay 10 2009, 13:25:38 UTC
"Oh! I'm a SOLDIER, 2nd Class!" Zack grinned and put his hands on his hips, striking his best PR pose. And then he winced a little and smiled sheepishly at Fai. "Sorry. I forget that nobody here has heard of SOLDIER. But really, it's exactly what it sounds like."
"Oh, you're a fighter, then." Fai smiled, shaking his head. "You might actually get along with the cranky one over there. He's a swordsman." The pose was...excellent, in a silly way. Fai approved. Zack obviously had a good sense of humor.
"So what are you planning to do here? You'll probably be busy with school, but you might eventually want a job, too." Best to try more subtle hints to begin with.
Re: Talk to Faipuppy_fairMay 10 2009, 13:42:11 UTC
Oooooo! Swordsman! That was the third one Zack had met this weekend. He was going to have to introduce himself to the guy... When he didn't look so busy. It was best to approach the grumpy ones when they weren't doing things, he'd learned.
"Right now, I'm just trying to sort out what's where. I only got here yesterday, so I haven't really given it much thought beyond that," he confessed. "But you're right. I'll probably need something to keep me busy. I don't think there are going to be many missions I can do from here, after all."
"Well, if you need a job, we're hiring and would be glad to have you," Fai offered, still smiling. "I'm Fai D. Flourite - but that's really too long, so just Fai is fine. That one over there is Kurogane."

"Good to meet you, Fai! I'm Zack!" Resist posing again, Zack. Reeeesiiiiiist. "And if you're offering a job, I'd love to take it, sure! It'll give me something to do between missions back home and classes, right? And what better place to meet people than a restaurant?"

People had to eat, after all!

"We have Sundays, Thursdays, and Fridays open," he went on to say. "Since you're the first to come in, you have first pick."

His class was on Friday. He was just horribly unorganized. Silly boy.
