Apr 16, 2008 10:18

A.J. was in a good mood today, which meant that A.J. was busy drawing up a storm in his sketchbook. Most of the work, however, was turning out to be ideas on the redecoration of the diner, to propose to Lacey hopefully soon. He hoped that she had a lot more drive and ambition than some one like he had, otherwise, by the time she got around to ( Read more... )

"Hi!" Annette said, immediately as she entered, practically skipping up to the counter to take a seat.

In her hand she was carrying a gift basket and she set this on the counter beside her folded arms. "I'll have a strawberry milkshake, please."

"Strawberry? Not chocolate?" A.J. asked as he looked up from his sketching. "Whoa, there, Annette. Totally rocking my world over here. What's the gift basket for?"

"I thought I would be daring," she said about the shake. Then she bounced and looked at the totally abagomg not basket cause I'm dumb. It was red with a velvety brown ribbon securing the handles together so there could be no peeking inside.

"It's for you."

"Gotta love that adventurous spirit," A.J. said with a slight grin as he started to get the milkshake together. "And for me, really? What for? I'm pretty sure I'd remember if my birthday or something was coming up..."

"I don't have to have a reason, do I?"

A.J. turned a little pink at that. "Well, no, I guess not," he admitted. "It is a bit of a surprise, though. A good one!" he assured her quickly. "Definitely a good one. Thanks..."

"Welllll..." she hooked her fingers through the loops of the handle and leaned back a little, setting the bag in her lap. "I could always keep it and give it to you after I tell you that I got you a surprise. Then you wouldn't be surprised. I could just like pick up the phone and say, 'Ohhh, hey A.J., I like got you this something that I was going to give you as a nice little surprise, but I don't want you being too surprised so I'm telling you about your surprise now. I'll bring you your surprise say, Sunday, so you won't be surprised when you see me walk in to the diner carrying your surprise in my hands. And ohhh, hey, don't be surprised now, kay?' Yeah, I can totally do that from now on, if you like."

Oh. Annette was wicked.

A.J. gave a firm nod. "Good. You know those surprises, how much I hate them. Best avoided in the future and you do know that I'm totally kidding and I really love surprises, especially if they're coming from you, right?"

He concluded his oh-so-serious babble with a light, hopeful sort of smile.

"...and you know that I'm totally kidding because surprises are the best ever. Who doesn't love a surprise? I mean, it would have to be a good one though and I would never tell you before omigod; who actually does that?" She grinned a bit and nodded, setting the bag on the counter again.

"Now, would you like to open it now, or take it home with you and open it there?" she blinked innocently. "I'm thinking I would like to be around when you open it."

"How's about," A.J. offered, "I open it just as soon as I have this milkshake ready for you? Customer comes first, after all."

Despite he'd be damned before he actually allowed Annette to pay for a milkshake from him.

"Glad you approve," A.J. said, smirking crookedly as he went and blended the milkshake up for Annette, taking the rare route of not actually talking through the mixing process and then pouring the results into a cup for her. "Whipped cream with that again, or did you already have your splurge for the week?"

"No whipped cream, thanks. I had cake yesterday at cheerleading practice, which I really didn't need, but it was so good," she commented conversationally. "It was just a tiny piece though, really. I don't think it went to my thighs," she snorted and shook her head. "...and Chad was worried about eating any at all. You know Chad? The really tall one, right? Fit... and well, he wants to model so wouldn't eat cake."

A.J. blinked at Annette for a moment. "You guys had cake at practice? Man, now I really do feel bad for not coming around to see you yesterday. But come on." He set the cup in front of her with a smirk. "You got your milkshake, now I get my present, right?"

"It was wonderful cake," she commented before she sipped her shake. "Mmm, so good. I actually love strawberry... chocolate is my favorite, but strawberry is good too. Oh, if you came yesterday, you would have seen me fly in the air." Nod nod. "Okay, not really fly but Chad tossed me and I did a couple flips and a toe toss..." yes, she was rambling on purpose, prolonging his surprise. "Wanna sip of my milkshake, A.J.?"
