Luke's Diner; Sunday [ 03/30 ]

Mar 30, 2008 14:29

A.J. was thinking that there was a decent chance that, hey, maybe kids wouldn't really want to bother with a diner. Hopefully. But he was psyching himself up to make lots and lots of little milkshakes just in case, and even made an actual special today instead of just drawing something obscure and abstract: PB&J with the crusts cut off and a ( Read more... )

Not long after it opened, Ino bounced in. "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii, A.J.!"

Ahhh, no diner was safe, it would seem. At least A.J. was thinking he could possibly be amused by the attempts of any of the kidlets to get on any of the stools at the counter. His head tilted, taking into consideration who this was. Since he'd met Annette yesterday, that helped rule people out based on the blonde hair, and it also made his doubt that he'd get the entertainment out of scrambling up to sit down. A ninja should have no problem.

"Iiiiiiiiino?" He guessed, mocking her dragging greeting kindly. He almost kind of expected this, since Annette mentioned Ino being eight right now.

The stool really posed no problem for her, Ino got up on it with a minimum of effort and giggled at him.

"Who else would I be? That's silly!"

"I dunno," A.J. said, "you could have been an Ino-imposter. I gotta be careful about these sorts of things, you know."

"Do I look like an imposter?" Ino asked, grinning.

"Well," A.J. said, in all honesty, "you don't have nearly as much hair as I would have expected."

"It wouldn't be practical," Ino said, pronouncing the word carefully, "Daddy say's I've got to get better at taijutsu before he'll let me grow it."

A.J. gave a very important sort of nod. "That's probably a good idea. Your daddy sounds pretty smart."

"My Daddy is the bestest and he loves me even though a lady this morning said he doesn't and that he's bad." She looked up at A.J. "My Daddy's not bad."

"A lady said that?" A.J. asked, a little surprised, and frowning. "Which one?"

What the hell kind of a person said that to a kid?

"A mean lady in the Perk," Ino said, which probably didn't help at all.

A.J. frowned. "She does sound mean. She was probably just a mean, grouchy old lady." He wrinkled up his face for Ino. "If she were in here, I'd kick her out for you."

"Daddy does so love me," Ino said, pouting, "and he's not a bad person, right? Just because he's a ninja?"

"Definitely not a bad person," A.J. said, hoping that was true, because it wasn't like he knew Ino's dad, but he sounded nice from what she'd said about him. "In fact, I happen to know some very awesome ninjas, so I don't see what that has to do with anything."

"She said he's, he's morally void," Ino said, "and he's not. Daddy's the bestest!" She tilted her head at him. "I'm going to be the bestest ninja ever, just like Daddy!"

Ino was severely biased in favour of her Dad.
