Park, Tuesday Morning

Aug 29, 2006 07:12

Blair wrapped his arms around himself as he walked through the park. This whole early morning-rise with the sun-meditation thing would have worked better if it wasn't raining. His sweatshirt was starting to get damp and there was no way he was going to sit on the grass. Meditation worked just as well standing up, didn't it?

Blair finally leaned against a tree and closed his eyes, trying to forget about the dampness and meditate.

The change in assignments came none too soon. A full year spent racketing about the planet, berating more-righteous-than-thou televangelists into some semblence of human decency, was really starting to get old. And he missed things. Things like the sharp smell of cut grass, the oily feel of newsprint ink, the taste of a good tuna roll.

His challenge came in finding his way there. Several dead ends finally landed him in what did rather seem to be the right place, though.

The new host seemed to be a teenage boy, familiar seeming, but it was hard to tell from this perspective. Maybe the angel could coax him toward a mirror, once he found out for certain where they were.

"Er...I beg your pardon. But could you tell me if I might be in Fandom."

"Buh?" Blair knew that wasn't the answer to the question but he was thrown off that the question had come from his own mouth and had sounded british.

Aziraphale sighed. He'd lost track of how many times he'd had to go through this explanation over the past year.

"Quite. You see, I'm discorporated, and at the moment I'm possessing you, but if you'd just be so kind as to give me a hand, I'm sure we could get this all worked out nicely. So...is it possible I might be in Fandom?"

River had gone to the park to draw the ducks. Or talk to them, in case they should prove to be talkative, which usually wasn't the case.

She noticed Blair who seemed lost in thought, and called his name and waved.

Before he had really gotten into his meditation he heard River's call and opened his eyes. "Morning, River."

"Morning," River said smiling. "Meditating? It's a good place for that."

"It would be better if it wasn't so wet." There was a whiny note to Blair's voice.

Jesse strolled into the park with Skeeter and a handy stick he'd picked up. He was waiting for the local general store to open so he could have an apartment that was more than bare walls and the clothes on his back.

He tossed the stick for his dog and stopped to stare at the weird lobster sculpture by the pond.

Blair waved as he walked past. "Morning!"

Small towns. Gotta love them.

"Mornin'." He strolled in Blair's general direction. "You one of the students up at the school?"

"Yup! Blair Sandburg, man. Nice to meet y..." Blair trailed off as he took in the collar. "Oh! Are you a hooker?"

Blair gave an embarrassed little cough and suddenly spoke with a British accent. "Good heavens, my dear, what on earth would make you ask a question like that?"
