"Starfleet welcomes us home." There's a waiver in Uhura's voice Kirk's not sure he likes to hear. This is the end, and from here, who knows? He tells her to get the whole crew in the largest rec room, then claps Sulu and Chekov each twice on the shoulder.
"Good job," he says, with silent thankfulness.
Later, he'll elaborate on the sentiment to the whole crew. Much later, he and McCoy and Scott and Spock (if they can convince him) will drink a toast to their last few minutes on the bridge.
And from there, who knows?
