Outside the dorms, Sunday evening

Jun 11, 2006 19:28

Isabel had promised Greg she'd spend the day resting. So she did just that. After an afternoon of napping, and then changing the bandages on her neck, she brought her book and blanket to the grass outside the dorms to enjoy the last bit of the day.

There'd been no answer at Isabel's door, so Jack had trotted back down the stairs. There were a lot of stairs, and he was a little fox, so it took awhile.

When he spotted her sitting outside, he ran over and shoved his head against her side.

Isabel flinched at the contact because she was still pretty sore. "Ouch! What the hell?" she asked as she looked down at the fox.

Jack immediately sat up, tucking his tail neatly around his paws, and stared at her, ears drooping to the side, looking as contrite as a fox can manage. Which, granted, is not very. //Sorry, Izzy.//

She blinked and shook her head. "I can't believe I'm asking this question. But do I know you?"

Bel stepped outside the dorms for a cigarette. As he lit up, he caught sight of Isabel nearby and walked over to her. "Hey, Isabel," he said, then frowned. "What happened to your neck?" His first thought was that Darla, Dru, or Spike were back.

"Hi Bel," Isabel said, still scratching Jack's ears. "I had a bit of a run-in with a mummy last night."

"A mummy?" Bel repeated. It clicked with what Parker had told him about books and Egyptian hieroglyphics. "Because of the thing with the book?"

She nodded. "Yup. The book caused people to have nightmares, and was responsible for all the other weirdness this week. And then there were mummies, and beetles and scorpions. Lots of fun."

Parker wandered by, and saw Isabel talking to Bel and playing with a ... fox? She blinked. "Okay, it's magic, right? I hope? Because otherwise, those things have germs, Isabel."

Isabel snickered. "It's magic apparently. You're not going to believe who it is though."

"John would be too easy. Bridge was just a ferret." Parker sighed, and folded her arms, studying the little fox. "Okay, too many possibilities. Who?"

"Jack apparently. And before you ask, I have no idea how. But he says it's not permanent," Isabel assured her.
