2nd Floor Common Room -- Monday Early Evening

Jan 04, 2010 17:24

Hinata had figured that even if Warren was more than pleasant about dealing with Yei, that it was only good manners to remove herself (and her cat) from the room at intervals just so he could spend longer than kitten could nap without Yei attempting to stalk and play with his feathers ( Read more... )

Elena was just walking back, on her way to her room, when she happened to poke her head in and spot the attack-kitty.

Awwwwwwwwww.

This required a quick detour three flights up.

When she returned, she had a squirmy gray fuzzball in her arms.

"Playdate?" she asked, by way of introduction.

Hopefully the other kitten liked to make friends?

Yei would love to make friends! As soon as she noticed which might take just a tiny bit here as she was busy being all Brave and Fierce and the Ball Kept Moving (which meant she had to Go After It and maybe the other kitten would want to help her?).

Hinata looked up, a smile lighting her face at the sight of the other girl with her cat.

"Absolutely," she said, closing her book and holding the place with her fingers. "I could not refuse an invitation like th-that. Yei would never forgive me."

Rookie wriggled excitedly in Elena's hands, and since the other girl seemed okay with it, Elena leaned over to let her kitten jump free. Once out of her hands, Rookie was tearing off to chase the ball. And sniff at the other kitten. Sniff! Sniff sniff sniff! Friend?

"Hi," she said. "Yei's your kitten? She's very pretty."

Hey hey hey there was another kitten. Yei blinked over the ball, promptly went tumbling over paws and wound up staring up at the other kitten and mewed interestedly as she sniffed.

Friend! HI FRIEND! And so, she was just going to wriggle around and bat at the other kitten's paws. Hiiiii.

Hinata laughed softly. "She's very silly," she amended, "but yes, Yei's mine as much as anyone owns a cat. Yours is lovely as well. Wh-What's her name if you don't mind me asking?"

Paws! If Yei was gonna sniff her paws then Rookie was going to YANK them back. And twitch her tail a few times, waiting, waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiting .... then she launched her vicious counterattack. Which was batting at Yei's paws and then hopping back and wiggling around like crazy.

"I think all kittens are silly," Elena laughed. "It's part of the job description. Her name's Rookie, and mine's Elena. I don't think we've met, have we?"

It was a most vicious attack. Which was born out by the way Yei squeaked and wriggled around and then gave a very clumsy sort of leap-hop-skip combo to try and pounce on Rookie's tail.

Tails moved. They were awesome.

"My apologies for not asking your n-name," she said, flushing slightly. "We haven't met as far as I recall, but I am Hinata. It is a pleasure to meet you." Accompanied with that was a bob of her head and shoulders that gave the impression that, had she been standing, there would have been a shallow bow. Embarrassment did that to her. "I s-suppose all kittens are rookies in a way?" she said lightly. "As th-they are still learning."

Tails could flip, and slither, and fly away at the last second! Or thwap other kitties, lightly, in the face.

This was interrupted by Rookie realizing she needed to scramble up and really, really smell all of Yei's face. She hadn't gotten all of the eyebrows before, and those things are vital.

"Oh, don't worry about it," Elena said easily. "Nice to meet you, too. And back home, I'm in a group where the new member is always the Rookie, so a friend suggested it. What does 'Yei' mean?"

"Rookie's a cute name," she answered, smiling. "And Yei means flourishing--th-that's what my wish for her was, so it became her name."

Weeeell if Rookie was going to be all In Her Face then Yei was just going to stick her face at Rookie's chest. HA. Face in Chest. And inspecting. This was serious stuff here. Very Serious.

Oh! Oh! Face-in-chest! Rookie was going to lick the top of Yei's head. See how she liked that!

Omnomnom. Other kitties tasted good!

"Oh, that's pretty," she said, easing into a chair, eyes still watching to her kitten. She wasn't feeling protective: she just got transfixed by the cute now and then.

She colored slightly at realizing it, and turned her eyes back to Hinata. "Flourishing. Has she been flourishing?"

Hinata's smile was soft at noticing the pink in Elena's cheeks and she diplomatically chose not to mention it.

Besides, watching the kittens was an absolutely valid excuse for distraction.

"She has been," Hinata answered. "At least, so far as anyone can tell. I cannot talk to her and have her answer in words."

Yei was starting to think the whole face-in-chest thing had been a bad idea since it severely limited her options when Rookie started tasting her. But--AH HA. Stomach fur was ticklish, yes yes? Especially when little whiskers went nosing about!

"I bet someone on this island can," Elena mused. "But I don't think you need to. I mean, if she's happy and cuddly and so on ... then you have to guess you're doing something right, right?"

There was only one answer to that: Rookie was going to FLOP onto her back! And wave her paws in the air! And ... and wave them! Look! The waving!

Waving! Oooo, waving! No way could she resist that! Down she went in a butt-wiggling crouch before pouncing at the paws. Paws! Must be subdued! Or licked and nudged and sniffed at. That worked too.

Clearly subdued had a fairly wide definition when you were a kitten.

"Th-That's been my theory," she laughed softly. "And so far it seems to be working. She's been with me for a little while now--have you had Rookie long?"

"Hi, Elena," Didi grinned. "Your cat is also totally adorable, by the way."

"Hi!" Elena said. "Aww, thank you. She's my first pet, so I'm still scared I'm going to mess things up somehow."

She wasn't sure how, but there probably was a way. And if so, leave it to her to find it.

"You won't," Didi reassured her. "You love her, she loves you, you aren't going to forget to feed her ... it's all good."

"She gets loud when she wants food," Elena laughed. "Even when it's not food time. I feed her, anyway. I think I spoil her, but ..."

Wasn't that the point?
