Main Campfire [Tuesday, Evening]

May 12, 2009 21:56

Effy had spent most of the past four days avoiding people. Something that was probably a good move on her part, and for everyone, considering that she wasn't the most openly friendly sort to begin with, and that would really only be compounded by jetlag and getting sent away to this fucking place. Boring as Bristol was, she couldn't say this was ( Read more... )

Someone was already at the campfire tonight and, wonder upon wonders, it was someone he recognized.

"Oh look, it's my bestie," he said, tone sarcastic. He took a seat on one of the logs. "Fire good?"

"Not bad," she replied mildly, glancing up with a slight smirk. "If you've been plaiting friendship bracelets, they can go on now."

"Oh, wouldn't you know, I ran out of material," Alex said, shrugging. "You'll have to do with the sentimental value of me offering in the first place."

"Shame," Effy said, still looking just a touch amused as she leaned back against her own log. "I was so looking forward to that."

The main campfire, Turtle decided, seemed like a good place to start tonight, settling in after another day at the store.

She remembered the girl who was already there, but her lexicon seemed to be failing today.

"Hey," she offered. "I remember you from the picnic, but, I'm sorry, I can't remember your name..."

"Effy," she said, a small smile creeping onto her face. She was actually a whole lot more open to socialisation when she had a little bit of alcohol in her. Go figure.

"... you were Turtle, right?" It was a fucking weird name. Not the sort of name you forgot, really.

Which Turtle counted as a good thing. She nodded. "Right, Turtle. How are you settling in so far, Effy? Any weird classes?"

"Learned how to lie on Monday," Effy said. Not that she really needed a whole lot of help on that subject, as far as she was concerned.

"Interesting, as lessons go."

Worf was not exactly patrolling. It was more of him being on alert. Especially since the invasions of zombies and aliens recently.

So it was unfortunate for Effy that Worf found her near the fire ring.

"I assume you are taking proper percautions?" Worf growled.

"Of course," she replied, leaning back to look at him. The growling was still hardly something to deter her.

Well, of course she was being safe for her least favourite weird looking goody goody!

"Having a nice walk?"

"Yes. Very pleasant," Worf grunted. "I advise you to make sure a fire extinguisher is available in case it spreads and to stay a respectable distance from the fire in order to prevent any injuries."

"We're on a campsite," Effy pointed out. "I'm sure they supply extinguishers somewhere." There was sure to be a code that said one needed to be supplied. England couldn't be the only place getting overrun with rules like that.

Chuck was avoiding his own cabin after that shameful display of sharing feelings in front of Sam in class today, so he found himself at the main campfire. He had already had a joint lit by the time he sat down against a log.

"New girl," Chuck greeted with a nod.

She watched him a moment, taking her attention off the fire.

"Effy," she corrected after a moment, not really feeling like being identified as 'new girl' for the rest of her time here. She thought it was understandable.

"Unless I should be referring to you as 'old guy'."

"Effy sounds better than new girl anyway. And less confusing considering that there are a lot of new girls around," Chuck decided. "I'm Chuck."

"Sounds better than old guy," she sent back in return, looking him over briefly. Fitted him better, too. "Hi."

Raven knew she couldn't hide in her cabin all the time, so she might as well go outside and meet more of the other students. She tentatively approached the main campfire. It didn't seem too crowded now, at least. And she could always excuse herself if it got to be too much.

"Hello," she said hesitantly as she neared the fire.

Effy glanced up from the fire, quirking just a slight bit of a smile. Aww, look. A shy one!

"Hello," she returned, cocking her head as she watched the girl.

"Is it acceptable if I join you all here?" Raven asked, despite the fact that it was a public place and she didn't have to. She was nervous and did not want to offend anyone.

"Free campfire, as far as I know," Effy replied. It meant yes, but she was a strange one, and just saying yes was far too easy. "Sit."
