Third Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

Jan 10, 2009 13:59

Seven days of imprisonment on the island, and the oddness had started to fade, not to blankness, but to some strange background patchwork of dangerous madness. Arthur found that he was starting to get bored along with his unceasing concern, and that was downright intolerable ( Read more... )

"There's no brooding allowed in this room," Hannibal said after appearing in the doorway.

"You have my word," Arthur said, "That if I felt even the slightest inclination to brood, I'd find a window or a dank, rat-infested corner." He barely looked up, but the glimpse was enough to get the quickest impression, and the beginnings of a size-up.

"Rat infested?" Hannibal made a face. "You're a brave guy, ain't you? Unless you're friends with the rats. Rat whisperer?"

"Hardly," Arthur spoke, sitting back now that he was certain that this one wasn't a threat. "And so far, the castle seems to be considerably rat-free."

Oooh, Chuck knew this kids name. Just give him a second. It was coming to him.

"Arthur," There we go. "If you're looking to sit with your thoughts as your only company then you're in the wrong room."

"I was, in fact, looking for something to do." Chuck, was it? Yes. Chuck. "Chuck," Arthur produced.

Oh good, they both knew each other's names.

"This town isn't exactly known for it's thrilling night life," he said, sitting himself down in an armchair. "You're stuck with the TV until the island decides to throw something at you."

"I think the 'Tee Vee' can tend to itself for now." Or forever, if Arthur had anything to say about it. "Would the island have a habit of throwing things?" Not that he wanted any part of it now, but if his boredom reached astronomical levels to match how antsy he felt, well, he might consider looking forward to it.

A small kitten came padding into the room, looking for somewhere to hide, and headed straight for the back of the sofa.

"Camille! Camille! Oh, come on, please? Don't do this." Dinah ran into the room, and paused, looking around in exasperation, then blinking. Cute guys everywhere. "Hi," she gave a little wave, working on not blushing. "Did my cat come in here, or did I miss her?"

"If your cat was the white creature that just shot through the room like hell was on its ankles," Arthur replied. He knew her name, didn't he? "Then it's behind the large... chair.. thing."

"Sofa. Or couch," Dinah said automatically, shooting him a not-unfriendly glance. "Hey, Arthur. Settling in?" She walked over to the couch and crouched down, peering underneath. "Camille, cut it out. We talked about this. Galliano is not going to eat you."

"Meeeeww."

"I think Merlin has about everyone in this castle asking me that," Arthur said, dryly. "Yes, I'm doing fine."

Romeo had a lazy weekend day, and no better idea for was to fill it than checking the common rooms for signs of life.

Life discovered, then.

"Good day, Arthur," he noted, finding a seat. "I think you're one of the few new people I've talked to this time who didn't think I was mad."

"I think you're one of the few old people who, so far, hasn't given me any proof of madness," Arthur replied, glancing up. "But rest assured I'm still waiting."

"I mentioned that the island moved to my fake sister, and she treated me as if I made it up to amuse myself at best," Romeo sighed. "But if you're waiting for me to do anything especially unusual in that direction, it's not likely. I'm what passes for dull, here."

"The island seems imbued with magic, as I've said," he returned, "But you're aware of my thoughts on the danger of it."

Returning from the library, Leto wandered into the common room. He made himself a large cup of spice coffee, then sat down on the couch, picking up the TV remote and examining it.

"Morning, Leto," Arthur greeted. He shot a distrustful glance at the remote in his hands. "Careful."

"Morning." Leto didn't seem to pay much attention to Arthur's warning. The TV screen was suddenly turned on, revealing loud music and people dancing.

He'd been warned about the play-in-a-box, of course, but the reality of it still made him start in his seat. Uncomfortable was not simply a word or an emotion: it fairly covered his entire state of mind. "Make it go away."
