Outside the dorms: Thursday morning

Aug 09, 2007 18:53

Trenor was a very good horse, obedient and well-behaved, but he was also bored, tired of being stuck in the stable, and missing Karal. After several days of fidgeting, he finally worked out how to lift the latch on his stall door, and that would be why there was currently a horse in front of the dorms ( Read more... )

Faile was just heading out for a walk when she saw the horse grazing on the lawn. Her eyes lit up and she began to walk towards it carefully.

"Hello there," she said in a calming voice.

Trenor lifted his head and watched her approach, ears flicking forward and back, contemplating the possibility that she might have a treat. He was also contemplating the possibility that she might try and take him back to the stable.

He really didn't want that, so he was ready to bolt if she tried to catch him.

Faile watched the horse's ears twitch and slowed down even more. "You are a lovely horse," she said in the same low tone of voice. "Where do you belong?"

When she got within about two arms length of him, she stopped and put her hands in her back pockets. The horse was obviously twitchy and she didn't want to startle him into running. "Good horse. I'm just going to stand right here."

Relaxing when she stopped, his ears swivelled forward to point at her, and he stretched out his neck. Possibly she had a treat in the hands he couldn't see?

He took one cautious step forward.

Trenor snorted and lifted his head, dribbling grass everywhere as he considered her, then started walking in her direction.

"Okay, so, not a student." Z considered her bag of muffins. Horses liked apples, right? Z broke off a piece of apple cinnamon muffin and held it out to Trenor. "You want some?"

Nostrils flaring, he whickered at the smell and picked up the pace, stopping just in front of her to stretch out his neck and delicately accept the piece muffin.

River had gone out for an early morning walk, and when she returned she saw Trenor grazing on the lawn. Approaching quietly, she dug a half eaten apple put of her pocket.

Trenor's ears shot forward. He knew this person, and she had an apple! That was enough inducement for him to trot over and nudge her hand.

He'd never snatch the apple, he had better manners than that, but there was nothing wrong with a little encouragement.

The apple was slightly covered in pocket lint, bur River didn't think Trenor would mind. "Hello," she said. "Out on your own?" She wasn't aware that Karal was away.

It's probably just as well that Trenor didn't speak human and River didn't speak horse, because he'd probably be quite vocal on the subject of Karal being gone.

Instead, he just lipped at the apple, not really caring that it was a bit fuzzy, and crunched down, biting off a piece.
