Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

Aug 27, 2016 03:44

It may have just been a coincidence that the weather was sunny now that Fandom was back home in Maryland, but no one was going to complain.

Okay, maybe they were going to complain a little since the sun meant it was in the high 90s 32C outside, but that just meant there was a good excuse for all the ice cream on the buffet table of picnic food ( Read more... )

Meet Your Big/Little Sibling [Fall 2016] bigdamndean August 27 2016, 07:45:36 UTC
Assuming they survived the shuttle or whatever trip they took to get here.

Peridot didn't have the faintest idea just what a Kuzco was meant to be. She also wasn't entirely certain why she had been selected to be a sibling to one of them. But here she was, looking dubious if game, and keeping an eye out for such a being.

She had her name tag slapped across her chest and a faintly bemused expression on her face. If this was to be her purpose around here, then so be it. She would be a sibling to this new human until she could find her way back to Homeworld. And she would be most dutifully so, at that.

Kuzco was not wearing a nametag. He was wearing a big shiny crown. "Right," he said, stomping up to her. "So I hate everything about this place. How do I go home?"

Peridot took one look at the Kuzco, at the big shiny crown and all, considered that question for a moment, and then... just shrugged her shoulders, unimpressed.

"If I knew the answer to that, I wouldn't be here right now," she replied, wrinkling her nose. "Are you the Kuzco I'm supposed to become a proxy sororal guidance attendant for?"

Seriously, Peridot. 'Sibling' would do.

Meet Your Roommate [Fall 2016] bigdamndean August 27 2016, 07:45:59 UTC
Current students who had been assigned new rooms and/or roommates had been handwavily informed of the change, but the list had been posted for everyone to see at one of the tables:

203: Faith Connors | Khadgar
204: Margaery Tyrell | Sheimi Moriyama
205: Kuzco | Rhys
212: Lucille Sharpe | Cassandra Pentaghast
310: Kira Yukimura | Negasonic Teenage Warhead
506: Ringo Noyamano | Xanthippe Voorhees

There'd been advance notice, so this shouldn't have been news to Xanthippe.

However, she'd missed the advance notice. So this was news to Xanthippe.

"What? A new roommate? No."

But tell us how you really feel, Xan.

Oh, a new roommate! Ringo was super-excited. Sure, she was going to miss Mayday, but she was glad that she wouldn't be spending the Fall alone.

Also, she felt like she'd met Xanthippe before, maybe? At least it was a name she was familiar with, even if she was having trouble putting a face to the name. So she was looking around eagerly at nametags.

Too bad Xanthippe hadn't actually grabbed one.

She was also looking around trying to put a name and a face together. Or, glaring around, as it happened. Glaring like a glaring thing.

She was pretty sure they'd met, probably at one of the few parties...

Well... since Jono was teaching this semester, he supposed it was only right and proper to haul himself down to the picnic to see the new students. Get a feel for what he was up against.

Scar them for life, a little.

That sort of thing.

So he was leaning against the end of a picnic table, flames out, arms crossed over that space where there should have been a chest, just quietly (and not at all ominously) overseeing the crowd.

First person to mention weddings to him was going to get such a look.

Sorry, Jono. Peter hadn't learned about radio yet. And Jono was hard to miss and easy to recognize. And, well.

"Hi." Peter waved at him. "Were the flowers okay? Did the wedding go well this time?"

Oh, Peter. Jono looked so pained, but it wasn't at you in particular. Honest.

//The flowers were fine,// he replied. //They were great, actually. I think my fiance liked them.//

A 'but' hung in the air between them for a few seconds.

//Unfortunately, the third time was still not the charm. And I've been making him sleep on the sofa.//

Jono was still feeling spiteful, yes.
