Living on the Outskirts, Friday, Period 2

Sep 14, 2012 08:17

Once again, the classroom layout was very much the same as it had been in weeks gone by. Except it was possible that the shadowy corner that Jono had made a point to include was a little smaller, and a little more well-lit. You know. If you squinted a little. Or were the sort to pay attention to the shadowy corners at all, Cade. Jono was sitting up ( Read more... )

Comfy chairs, pastries, coffee and tea... Why, it's the perfect atmosphere to have some pre-class conversations in, too, isn't it?

Yeul took a pastry and then settled down to nibble on it, wondering if she should take the professor up on his offer to talk to him or not. She didn't really see what good it would do but perhaps he had a different view point?

Natalie took some tea and a pastry. She was probably going to skip the conversation unless someone approached her, though.

Stephanie helped herself to a muffin and a cup of tea, and found a comfy chair. Even if she didn't end up having a conversation with anyone, it'd be a relaxed sort of class.

With muffins. Yay.

Which is also a conversation, of sorts. Or at least Jono is making an effort to make eye-contact as he talks.

And talks.

And talks...

It's a bit of a one-sided conversation, granted.

Once the lecture got underway, Yeul found herself admitting that he made a great deal of sense in what he was saying this week. Though laying all of the hows of a conversation out the way he did made them seem rather more intimidating than she usually found talking to people to be.

Eye-contact wasn't happening so much on her part, though, as she wrote a few notes and kept her eyes on her paper instead.

Really. Conversation?

Atton was damned good at talking to people, all right? He was a fountain of wit.

He was just going to sit here and continue to eyeball Jono, unimpressed.

Break into partners or small groups and... have a conversation. That's it. Simple.

Do try to keep some of the rules of communication in mind when you do, at least. And if you feel passionate about the topics you're discussing, please, at least try to keep those conversations of yours civil. Jono is in no mood to brave a battlefield today.

Yeul wasn't sure what she wanted to talk about. Did it count as wishing she could if she knew it wouldn't make any difference anyway? And was it fair to wish she could when she thought it would only upset the person she talked to more than it would upset her?

If it just upset someone else then she didn't want to talk about it.

She glanced around for a someone to talk to nonetheless and resolved that, unless they wanted to talk about something upsetting, she would keep things light.

"I have no idea what to talk about," Victor said, turning to Yeul. "Usually I don't have a problem, but tell me to talk about something important to me and my brain completely freezes up. Do you have anything?"

Yeul looked mildly apprehensive at the thought of coming up with something.

"My first few thoughts seem either unwise or hardly of interest to anyone but myself," she said honestly, smiling despite herself. "I suppose we could talk about hobbies? As that is generally something that’s important though I doubt it fulfills the requirement to talk about something that we wish we could talk about."

Cade would be happy to talk to you, as long as you were a girl and weren't wanting to talk about anything real...
